Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • I think you'll see it more, and you've seen it since Bobby Taylor‍ committed; more public recruiting for the class. Privately, he was the first commit of the class and did some stuff behind the scenes. This was a big one for A&M. It had always felt like he was a fit here, and I would've been surprised to see him go anywhere else.

  • Brenen Thompson‍ is visiting this weekend. He will visit all of his top schools, and they're doing it around the COVID regulations. He has a track meet tomorrow, which is good for his travel schedule because of the length he has to go to get anywhere from Spearman.

  • We're also expecting 2024 quarterback Mabrey Mettauer‍ in town this weekend. I would assume there is something planned for Thompson and Mabrey to meet each other, but Mettauer doesn't have an offer yet.

  • Thompson is a big-time target for Texas A&M. When you run the 100m as he does and it translates to the football field similarly to Devon Achane, that's so intriguing. Think about Achane and how he was ripping of 12, 15 yard runs against Auburn. That's when he established himself as a college running back, and there were a few times where somebody got just enough of him in that game to keep him from going the distance. Getting more speed like that is key. Jimbo Fisher has added that, and this team needed it.

  • Jimbo Fisher first needed to improve in the trenches, and he did that. After that, he needed to improve the quarterback play. Kellen Mond's draft stock has risen. Every question this program needed to have answered was answered through recruiting or through development, and that is a message you can take into homes. The recruiting pitch for Jimbo is as good as it has been since he has been at Texas A&M.

  • Isaiah Sategna‍’s tape is impressive. That's real speed. It's explosive and gets to its top-end really quickly. He is the top-rated player in Arkansas, and adding him would be the third straight year for the Aggies to do that in Arkansas, following Chris Morris and Dreyden Norwood. Sategna is electric. It would be another huge get and another answer to getting speed at these outside skill positions.

  • If you get Sategna, where do they go next at receiver? They've already got the big target with huge upside in Noah Thomas‍, and now the pieces are filling in around him, whether it's Jay Fair‍, Sategna, Thompson, or Kojo Antwi‍. I'm not sure how many they could take. If you can get two giant outside guys that can run, you can fill out the inside guys with elite speed.

  • Jay Fair reminds me of Chase Lane, even though he's a better prospect. His tape is real clean. He can really runs his routes well.

We'll l see what Craig is made of as a coach and recruiter this year. I'm not his biggest fan but if this recruiting class goes South at WR and we don't produce on the field in 2021, it's going to be time to make some tough decisions at that position regarding coaching.

These are the players Craig is credited for:

There's a Heisman winner on that list. I choose not to doubt his recruiting ability.

Okay. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on the A&M players that he has been credited with until we see how they turn out. That's why I said that we can see how 2021 plays out.
I don't care what he did at Florida State. That's like saying your girlfriend used to do crazy things in bed with her ex-boyfriend. Who gives an S? What he she doing with you now?
