During Friday's edition of TexAgs Radio, the fish bowl's own Richard Zane joined to share updates from the latest in Aggie Athletics as there is plenty to run down from the diamonds, track, the tennis courts and much more.


Soccer (11-3, 7-1 in SEC play)
#7 Texas A&M will face South Florida in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Friday, April 30.

  • USF defeated Central Connecticut State, 3-0, in the first round on Tuesday afternoon.

The Aggies and Bull kickoff at 2:00 p.m. CT. The match - and the entire tournament - will be streamed for free on NCAA.com.

Men’s Tennis (16-8, 7-5 in SEC play)
On Friday morning, senior Valentine Vacherot was named the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Year.

  • Vacherot is the first Aggie to be named the league’s Player of the Year.
  • He holds an 85-20 career record and is tied for the school record in individual match wins.

Along with Vacherot, three other Aggies earned All-SEC honors.

  • Vacherot was named a first-team All-SEC selection.
  • Senior Hady Habib was also named a first-team All-SEC selection.
    • Habib posted a 15-5 record this season.
    • He was a second-team selection in 2019 and an all-freshman selection in 2017.
  • Senior Carlos Aguilar earned second-team All-SEC honors.
    • This is the third time Aguilar has earned All-Conference honors after being a first-team selection in 2019 and a second-team selection in 2018.
  • Raphael Perot was named an All-Freshman team selection.
    • Perot finished with eight SEC wins, which ranks second on the team.

No. 8 Texas A&M awaits their NCAA Tournament destination, with the event set to begin on May 7.

  • The NCAA Selection Show is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on May 3, steaming live on NCAA.com.
  • The first two rounds will be held at campus sites before the Sweet Sixteen moves to Orlando, Florida.

Women’s Tennis (19-7, 9-4 in SEC play)
It was announced on Thursday that senior Tatiana Makarova earned first-team All-SEC honors.

  • Makarova played in the Aggies’ No. 1 spot in all but two matches this season.
  • She posted a 23-6 record in singles matches and a 24-9 record in doubles action, playing with three different partners this season.

Track & Field
Three Aggies won SEC weekly honors for their performances at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge last weekend.

  • Deborah Acquah earned Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning the long jump with a jump of 22-4.25 (6.81m).
    • Acquah set the school record, beating her own record by seven innings. She jumped over 22 feet three different times at the meet.
    • She currently ranked No. 3 nationally in the event.
  • Dominique Mustin earned Freshman of the Week honors after finishing fourth overall and as the third-best collegian in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.52.
    • It was Mustin’s first SEC weekly honor.
  • Charokee Young earned Newcomer of the Week honors after winning the 400m with a time of 51.49.
    • That time is Young’s personal best, and she currently leads the SEC.

Athing Mu was named the United States Track & Field (USATF) Athlete of the Week after shattering the collegiate 800m record at the Michael Johnson Invitational two weekends ago in Waco.

  • Mu’s time of 1:57.73 ranks No. 6 in the world and No. 10 all-time.
  • This is the second time Mu has garnered USATF weekly honors.

Rankings Update:

  • Men: Down to No. 8 (No. 5 last week)
  • Women: Up to No. 3 (No. 4 last week)

The Aggies are running a home meet this Saturday in the Alumni Muster at E.B. Cushing Stadium in Bryan-College Station.

  • The field events begin at 12:30 p.m. CT, and the running events begin at 5:30 p.m. CT.

Softball (31-14, 8-10 in SEC play)
Outfielder Bre Warren was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week after her performance vs. Mississippi State in Starkville last weekend.

  • Warren was .385 (5-for-13) with two doubles, five RBIs and three walks.
  • This is the second SEC honor for Warren this season after she was named the SEC’s Player of the Week on March 30.
  • Warren currently ranks second on the team in doubles (9) and walks (21) and third in average (.343).
  • In SEC play, Warren leads A&M in hits (19) and doubles (4) and ranks second in average (.339) and RBIs (10).

Senior catcher/utility player Haley Lee has a chance to break the Texas A&M single-season home run record.

  • With six regular-season games to play, Lee currently has 21 home runs.
    • Meagan May currently holds the record with 24 in 2010.
    • Lee is also hitting .413 on the season.
  • Lee is currently fourth nationally in home runs.

    3. Tiare Jennings, Oklahoma: 22
    4. Haley Lee, Texas A&M: 21

The Aggies host No. 17 Kentucky this weekend at Davis Diamond for a three-game SEC series.

  • Friday: 6:00 p.m. CT on the SEC Network+
  • Saturday: 2:00 p.m. CT on the SEC Network+
  • Sunday: 12:00 p.m. CT on the SEC Network+
    • Following Sunday’s game, the Aggies will honor their four seniors as Dani Elder, Gabby Moreno, Kayla Poynter and Ashlynn Walls play their final home games in the Maroon & White.

Baseball (24-19, 5-13 in SEC play)
Texas A&M shut out Texas State, 4-0, on Tuesday night at Olsen Field to sweep the season series with the Bobcats.

  • Jonathan Childress tossed five scoreless innings to earn the victory.
  • Chris Weber picked up the four-inning save.
  • Austin Bost hit a two-run home run in the first inning to set the tone.

The Aggies hit the road to face No. 6 Mississippi State in a three-game series this weekend in Starkville.

  • Friday: 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+
  • Saturday: 2:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network+
  • Sunday: 2:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network

Men’s Golf
The Aggies now await their postseason destination as NCAA Regionals are to be announced next week.

  • The 2021 NCAA Men’s Division I Championship field will be announced on Wednesday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m. CT on GOLF Channel.
