From the Baseball Capital of Texas to the pros.

In the 13th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, the Miami Marlins selected Texas A&M left-hander Chandler Jozwiak with the 389th overall pick. Jozwiak, a Brenham native, became the third Aggie hurler to hear his name called this year, following Bryce Miller and Dustin Saenz.

Despite being outside of MLB.com's top-250 draft-eligible prospects, Jozwiak's strong senior season out of the Aggie bullpen generated enough buzz to get the senior selected in this year's 20-round selection process.

As a senior, Jozwiak blossomed into a go-to arm out of the bullpen, often appearing in high-leverage situations and at the end of ballgames. On the year, "Joz" posted a 3.48 ERA with eight saves to go along with 79 strikeouts in 62 innings of work. Jozwiak made 28 appearances in 2021, none more memorable than his two-inning outing against the Texas Longhorns in which he struck out three of the seven batters he faced to nail down a 2-0 victory.

Throughout his Texas A&M career, Jozwiak bounced between the Aggies' starting rotation and the bullpen, starting 17 of his 78 career appearances. In four years in Aggieland, the Brenham-native amassed a 10-9 record and nine saves to go along with a 4.10 ERA. The left-hander tallied 216 strikeouts and 64 walks in 180.0 innings of work.

Jozwiak came to Texas A&M after starring for the Brenham High School Cubs, where he posted a 10-1 with a 0.98 ERA. During his first season in Aggieland, Joz appeared in 19 games and made nine starts en route to a 2-0 record with a 4.50 ERA in 42.0 innings. In his sophomore campaign, Jozwiak was again in and out of the starting rotation, pitching in 26 games while making just five starts. Jozwiak finished 2019 with a 4-5 record and a 4.76 ERA in 58.2 innings pitched. In the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Jozwiak was 2-0 with a 3.12 ERA in five outings, including three starts.

Ryan Brauninger’s scout of Chandler Jozwiak

“Good athlete. Uses a crossfire delivery coupled with an outstanding slider to create deception. Gets a lot of disconnected swings when he’s throwing it where he wants to. Control has been somewhat of an issue. Great competitive gene. Has experience in a lot of different roles in college, but projects as a short stint bullpen arm at the next level.”
