Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller declares for 2022 NFL Draft

Two-time Texas A&M 1,000-yard rusher Isaiah Spiller on Tuesday announced that he will enter the 2022 NFL Draft.

The son of former Texas A&M tight end Fred Spiller, Isaiah Spiller had the option of returning for his senior season.

He did not say whether he will play in the Aggies’ bowl game.

A four-star prospect out of Klein Collins High School, Spiller was rated the No. 9 running back prospect in the nation in 2019. He performed even better than that ranking.

In three seasons, Spiller rushed for 2,993 yards and 25 touchdowns. He accumulated those totals despite sharing much of the rushing load with Devon Achane over the last two seasons.

Spiller ranks No. 7 on the A&M all-time rushing charts with 2,993 yards. He needs 22 rushing yards in the bowl game to move past Rodney Thomas for sixth on the all-time list should he play against Wake Forest in the Gator Bowl.

Spiller also had 74 receptions for 585 yards and a touchdown in his career.

A member of A&M’s No. 4 ranked 2019 recruiting class, Spiller began his career as a backup to Jashaun Corbin. He rushed for 106 yards on just seven carries against Texas State in his first collegiate game.

However, he did not break into the starting lineup until after Corbin suffered a season-ending injury against Clemson in the second game of the season.

Once in the starting lineup, Spiller never left. He rushed for 946 yards and ten touchdowns as a freshman.

As a sophomore, he earned All-SEC honors for gaining 1,036 yards and scoring nine touchdowns in ten games. That season was marked by his fourth-down 19-yard touchdown run in a 41-38 victory over Florida in which he ran over Gators linebacker Vontrell Miller.

This season, he rushed for 1,011 yards and six touchdowns and caught 25 passes for 189 yards and a score. He caught an 18-yard touchdown pass with just 2:41 remaining in a 10-7 victory over Colorado.

Later, he played a key role in a 41-38 upset of No. 1 Alabama. Spiller had a 15-yard touchdown run against the Crimson Tide. He also caught a key 17-yard pass for a first down on the Aggies’ drive for a game-winning field goal.
