Texas A&M tight end Jalen Wydermyer will enter 2022 NFL Draft
Three years and 18 days after he committed to Texas A&M, tight end Jalen Wydermyer announced he is leaving.
Wydermyer revealed via Twitter he will forgo his senior season and enter the 2022 NFL draft.
A two-time All-SEC selection and Mackey Award finalist, Wydermyer committed to A&M on Dec. 2, 2018. He developed into one of the main stars of the Aggies’ No. 4 ranked 2019 recruiting class.
Wydermyer also announced he will not play in the Aggies’ bowl game.
Once a four-star prospect from Dickinson, Wydermyer leaves A&M with 118 receptions for 1,468 yards. He set an A&M record for a tight end with 16 touchdown catches.
Wydermyer is the son of a former high school star running back. Though he grew to 6-5, 255 pounds, he inherited his father’s running ability.
As a freshman in 2019, Wydermyer caught 32 passes for 447 yards and six touchdowns. The most memorable was a 52-yard catch in a victory over Mississippi State. He caught the pass from Kellen Mond seven yards downfield then weaved through the secondary and broke tackles to cover the remaining 45 yards.
He followed up his impressive freshman campaign last season by catching 46 passes for 506 yards and six touchdowns in ten games. He had two touchdown catches against Arkansas, South Carolina and Auburn.
This season, Wydermyer has caught 40 passes for 515 yards and four touchdowns.
