During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Richard Zane joined to take us Around Aggieland and provided updates from the hardwood, the track and beyond as there is plenty going on with Texas A&M Athletics.


Men’s Basketball (15-4, 4-2 in SEC)
Despite a furious comeback that forced overtime, Texas A&M ultimately fell to Arkansas on Saturday night, 76-73, as the Aggies dropped their second consecutive game.

  • Texas A&M trailed by as many as 16 and trailed by 10 midway through the second half.
  • Hassan Diarra hit a 3-pointer with nine seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, 64-64.

  • Wade Taylor IV had a career day with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-8 from behind the arc.
  • Quenton Jackson was the only other Aggie in double figures with 13 points.

The Aggies are back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Baton Rouge to face Will Wade and the No. 13 LSU Tigers.

  • Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.

Women’s Basketball (11-8, 1-6 in SEC)
The struggles continued for Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon as the Aggies fell to Missouri on the road, 78-69.

  • Four Aggies scored in double figures as Kayla Wells led the way with 14 points. Sydnee Roby and Destiny Pitts added 13 points each, while Qadashah Hoppie scored 11.

The Aggies will be off during the week and return to action on Sunday as they travel to Starkville to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

  • Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.

Track & Field
Texas A&M swept the Texas Aggie Invitational as both the men’s and women’s teams took first place this weekend at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

  • The men scored 144 points. TCU finished second with 74 points.
  • The women scored 178 points. TCU finished second with 60 points.
  • Zhane Smith won the women's 60m with a personal-best time of 7.29.
  • Deshae Wise won the women’s 200m with a personal-best time of 24.06.

  • Tierra Robinson-Jones won the women’s 400m with a time of 53.34.
  • Grace Plain won the women’s 3000m with a personal-best time of 9:51.46.
  • Olympian Annie Kunz won the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.34. Wise finished second as the top collegian with a season-best 8.34.
  • Texas A&M won the women’s 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:32.94.

  • Lamara Distin won the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.80m/5-10 3/4.
  • Heather Abadie won the women’s pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 4.18m/13-8 1/2.
  • Deborah Acquah posted a season-best in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.47m/21-2 3/4.
  • Gavin Hoffpauir won the men’s 1-mile run with a personal-best time of 4:06.19.
  • Henry Jaques won the men’s 3,000m with a personal-best time of 8:20.39.
  • Texas A&M won the men’s 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:07.33.

  • Carter Bajoit won the men’s high jump with a personal-best clearance of 2.17m/7-1 1/2.
  • Texas A&M also won the mixed 4x400m relay with a time of 3:27.67.

Women’s Golf
No. 19 Texas A&M began its spring season with a win in the Desert Match Play at the Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

  • The Aggies defeated No. 18 USC and No. 22 Baylor to earn a total of 73.5 points to win the event.
  • Freshman Adela Cernousek won all six of her matches to lead the Maroon & White.

The Aggies will return to action in February as they’ll participate in the ICON in Humble, Texas.

  • The event will be held Feb. 21-22 at the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course.

Women’s Tennis (4-0, 0-0 in SEC)
No. 13 Texas A&M earned two more victories this weekend, handling both Houston and Texas State with ease at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Sunday.

  • No. 13 Texas A&M 7, Houston 0
    • The Aggies won the double point, 2-0.
    • Carson Branstine won her match over Laura Slisane in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
    • Tatiana Makarova won her match over Maria Dzemeshkevich via a tiebreaker (6-2, 7-5, 1-0).
    • Mary Stoiana won her match over Azul Pedemonti in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
    • Jayci Goldsmith won her match over B Cortijo Parreno in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).
    • Gianna Pielet won her match over Sophie Gerits in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
    • Jeanette Mireles won her match over Gabriella Giraldo in straight sets (6-0, 6-2).
  • No. 13 Texas A&M 7, Texas State 0
    • The Aggies won the double point, 2-0.
    • Stoiana won her match over Hana Kvapilova in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
    • Pielet won her match over Kate Malazonia in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).
    • Mireles won her match over Mae McCutcheon in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).
    • Ellie Pittman won her match over Sofia Fortuno in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
    • Renee McBryde won her match over Maria Lora in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).
    • Isa Di Laura won her match over Jadeh Chan in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).

The Aggies are back in action on Thursday with another doubleheader at the Mitchel Tennis Center as they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12 p.m. CT) and Prairie View (4 p.m. CT).

Men’s Swimming & Diving (3-1, 1-0 in SEC)
On Saturday, No. 23 Texas A&M defeated LSU on the road, 154-146.

  • Anze Fers Erzen won the 400 IM with a time of 3:54.54 as the Aggies swept the event with Andres Puente and Munzy Kabbara taking second and third, respectively. Fers Erzen also won the 200 back with a time of 1:47.46. Puente won the 100 breast with a time of 54.59.
  • Trey Dickey won the 1,000 free with a time of 9:21.43.
  • Mark Schnippenkoetter posted a season-best in the 200 free with a time of 1:39.23 to win the event.
  • Ethan Gogulski won the 100 back with a time of 49.15.
  • Vincent Ribeiro won the 200 breast with a time of 1:59.48.

The Aggies return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 29, as they host the SMU Mustangs on Senior Night at the Rec Center Natatorium in Bryan-College Station.

  • The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. CT, and it will be streamed on the SEC Network+.

Women’s Swimming & Diving (4-1, 1-0 in SEC)
No. 22 Texas A&M defeated the LSU Tigers on Saturday afternoon, 181-.5-111.5, in Baton Rouge.

  • Chloe Stepanek won three different events: 100 free (49.77), 200 free (1:47.71) and 500 free (4:53.20).
  • Abby Grottle won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:03.19.
  • Kaitlyn Owens won the 100 back with a time of 55.06.
  • Sarah Holt set a second-best time in the 200 fly, winning the event with a time of 1:58.95. Holt also won the 100 fly with a time of 54.27.
  • Bobbi Kennett won the 50 free with a second-best time of 23.25.
  • Aviv Barzelay won the 200 back with a time of 2:00.40.
  • Joelle Reddin won the 200 breast and the 400 IM with times of 2:15.94 and 4:21.81, respectively.
  • A&M’s 400 free relay team of Kennett, Barzelay, Holt and Stepanek won the event with a time of 3:23.46.
