During Friday's edition of TexAgs Radio, the fishbowl's own Richard Zane joined to share updates from the latest in Aggie Athletics as a busy weekend is on tap in College Station with tennis beginning the NCAA Tournament, baseball hosting a crucial series and much more.


Women’s Tennis (30-1, 13-0 in SEC)
On Monday evening, it was announced that Texas A&M has earned the #7 overall seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament and will host the first two rounds at the Mitchell Tennis Center in Bryan-College Station.

  • This is A&M’s 22nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

#7 Texas A&M opens the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon as the Aggies face the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.

  • First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT, and the match will be available for streaming through the TennisOne app.
  • The winner will face either Baylor or Washington on Saturday.

Men’s Tennis (21-13, 7-5 in SEC)
No. 25 Texas A&M is headed to Waco to begin its run in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

  • #3 Baylor is hosting the first two rounds at the Hurd Tennis Center.

The Aggies will face the Tulsa Hurricane on Friday evening in a first-round matchup.

  • First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the match will be available for streaming through the TennisOne app.
  • The winner will face either Baylor or Abilene Christian.

Baseball (28-15, 12-9 in SEC)
No. 13 Texas A&M won another midweek contest as the Aggies took down Texas-Arlington on Tuesday night, 10-5.

  • The Aggies are now 9-1 in midweek games this season.
  • Dylan Rock was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. He finished a triple shy of the cycle.
  • A&M scored three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Winners of four consecutive SEC series, the Aggies look to continue their streak this weekend when they host the South Carolina Gamecocks for a three-game set, beginning on Friday night.

Softball (27-23, 5-16 in SEC)
On Wednesday, Texas A&M dropped both ends of a doubleheader on the road to the Houston Cougars.

The Aggies wrap up the regular season this weekend as they host the SEC regular-season champions and fifth-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks at Davis Diamond.

Men’s Golf
On Thursday, standout golfer Sam Bennett was named one of the three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award.

  • This is the first time an Aggie has been named a finalist for the prestigious award.
  • According to the Golfstat individual rankings, Bennett is currently the No. 3 golfer nationally and holds a 69.42 strike average, which would break the program record.
  • The 2022 Ben Hogan Award will be presented at a black-tie dinner on May 23 at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth. The winner will receive an exemption into the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge, played at Colonial.

Track & Field
On Thursday, middle-distance star Brandon Miller was named to the Bowerman Award Pre-Conference Championships Watch List.

  • The “Heisman of track,” the Bowerman is given annually by the USTFCCCA to the top male and female collegiate athletes. Semifinalists will be announced on June 21, and the finalists will be announced on June 28.
  • Miller currently holds the fourth-fastest 800m time in the country this season with a time of 1:46.43 and is a three-time All-American.
  • Also on Thursday, Miller and Athing Mu joined Kennedy Smith for an exclusive sitdown.
