2023 Denton Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill commits to Texas A&M
Under Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M has established more of a national presence, but recruiting the state of Texas has always been of the highest importance. It is home, and keeping top talent home is always a must.
Today, the Aggies did just that as one of the top priorities in the 2023 cycle, Denton (TX) Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill, announced his much-anticipated decision between Texas A&M and Texas.
On the field, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound defensive standout has been nothing short of spectacular. As a sophomore, he established himself as one of the state’s top defenders regardless of classification, and a disruptive force on one of the state’s stingiest defenses.
Hill has recorded over 100 tackles each of the last two seasons, and he was a constant presence in the opposing backfield. He showed the ability to drop into coverage and he is explosive at the point of impact.
His speed, athleticism and intelligence allow him to hit and make plays in all zones of the field, and it made him one of the top recruits in the country. Hill’s first college offer arrived from Florida A&M in December of his freshman year. By the spring his offer list had reached double digits and included offers from powerhouse programs across the country.
Texas A&M offered in April of his freshman year, with linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci leading Texas A&M’s efforts, and the two formed a strong bond. Hill and his family grew familiar with College Station and the Texas A&M program on numerous visits to the area.
Hill took official visits to Oklahoma (June 3), Alabama (June 10), USC (June 17) and Texas (June 24). At the end of June, he narrowed his list to Texas and Texas A&M, and after much thought and consideration, he announced his Texas A&M decision.
Hill now becomes the seventh commitment of Texas A&M’s 2023 recruiting class and joins Katy (TX) Paetow’s Daymion Sanford as linebackers in the class. Hill is currently the highest ranked prospect in the Aggies 2023 recruiting class and is ranked a five-star prospect, the No. 2 prospect in Texas in the TexAgs’ Top 100 and is regarded as one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects.
