Former Texas A&M wide receiver Ryan Swope joined Thursday's edition of TexAgs Radio to discuss who got it done vs. Arkansas and who will get it done in Starkville. The legendary wideout also offered his thoughts on the Aggie offense through four games.

Key notes from Ryan Swope interview

  • Saturday was a grind, and we found a way to get a win. It wasn't pretty, but at the end of the day, we've got a quarterback out there with two big wins under his belt. It can only get better, and Max Johnson's growing confidence will allow him to start slinging it. All in all, there is a lot to clean up, but we'll take the W.

  • Close? I wouldn't say the offense is close, and I wouldn't say we're close to average. There is a lot to improve, but they ran the football well. Devon Achane has been incredible, and he's dependable. We need to keep feeding him the ball. I don't think we're close yet. There are things we need to clean up, like clock management and self-inflicted wounds. We didn't turn the ball over, so that's a plus. We have a ways to go, and losing Ainias Smith doesn't help either.

  • We're going to learn a lot about our football team this week. Going on the road in the SEC West helps you find out who you are. It's going to be a tough stretch here. These guys just need to be ready to play Texas A&M football against some good teams that are coached well. Our defense has played so well, but you can only lean on them so much. Eventually, the offense has to make some plays. If we can establish the run, it opens up some explosive plays.

  • Evan Stewart's workload is getting bigger, for sure. The catch he made on Saturday wasn't the best throw, but you could see his god-given talent to make adjustments. I think his future is bright, and we have to find more ways to get him involved in the game plan now that Ainias is out. I expect we'll see a lot more out of him.

  • Achane got it done last week. He is nails. He is fun to watch. I love watching him on TV. He is so fast that he makes fast people look slow. He's a lot of fun to watch, and I love how he plays the game.

  • My pick to get it done this week in Starkville is Stewart. I think he has a big week this week. Everything I've seen from him tells me that he can do it. He's an electric player, and we're going to find a way to get him the ball.

  • I'm skeptical about our offensive line. They did a good enough job last week, but if they struggle this week, it could be a long day.

  • Our defensive line has been fantastic. Our entire defense has been fantastic. I love how they swarm to the ball and look like they're having fun. The defensive line has been very consistent, and they've got depth there too. From what I saw yesterday, they're going to have more depth soon too.

  • Watching Texas Tech-t.u. was pretty interesting. My mom went to Tech, and my dad went to Texas. There is always a little house rivalry between my parents, and my mom won some money last weekend thanks to the Longhorns coming out flat and losing. You hate to see it!

  • My brother and I converted my dad pretty well. We brainwashed him. If the Aggies and Longhorns are both on TV, I think he'd keep it on the A&M game.
