Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White

TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail following Texas A&M's loss to Mississippi State.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • I was being a little coy about David Hicks‍. I made plans to go down there once I got solid enough info that it was A&M. I knew that when I walked into Katy Paetow, Oklahoma, writers were going to be wondering what Brauninger was doing there, so I waited until about five minutes before. Great job by the coaches and getting him to come back. He saw the atmosphere at Kyle Field, and he saw they were playing all the young defensive linemen. Oklahoma generated a ton of momentum at the end of the summer. We knew A&M recruiting pitch would get stronger when the season started.

  • I could never get that upset about the decision of a recruit. Absolutely not. It's wild behavior. That's his decision. Grow up. We knew the Oklahoma fanbase on Twitter is large and overreacts. Things said by media members were over the line. If I'm a Katy administrator, I don't want those outlets coming to a game. It's the decision of a 17-year-old to 18-year-old kid.

  • You got the best two front-seven players in the 2023 class. David Hicks‍ and Anthony Hill‍. You are still doing a great job on Johnny Bowens‍. Your front seven and line of scrimmage plays are where you are getting most of your players.

  • You need a quarterback in this class. When you have Conner Weigman waiting on the reigns. It's hard to get an older transfer. Jason Howell will have some notes on running back soon. Receiver, it's getting hard to recruit that. They are getting hammered on the offensive side. When you can't sell the steak, sell the sizzle.

  • Malik Muhammad‍ is teammates with Jayvon Thomas‍ at South Oak Cliff. I don't know if he's getting cold feet. If you want to take control of your recruitment, just tweet it out, and he did. He tweeted he is taking official visits to Alabama, and A&M.  He’s another backend defender that's a quality defender.

  • I don't think people are going into this game with as many expectations. People are going to watch it on TV. You have less control of what happens on the road. There are not many opportunities in the middle of the schedule to get kids on campus.

  • Tausili Akana‍ is going to come on a visit. You will see other guys who are at the top of their position come check out A&M. Last year,  you had the ball rolling in Houston. The Alabama games were able to carry you through to signing day. There’s nothing that's out of the question yet.

Can someone translate this for me? I only understand the part about us missing on all the Top in-state & out-of-state WRs thanks to Jimbo's pos offense. I don't get the "sell sizzle" part. Lol

"Sell the sizzle, not the steak means to sell the outcome and experience of what it is that you're selling.

Many Sales Professionals and Business Owners focus on selling their product or service they focus on features and benefits, and the intricacies of what they're selling.

This mindset is not only flawed; but in fact, can cost you sales.

The sell the sizzle, not the steak mindset is to remind you to sell outcomes and experience', and not the 'thing' that you're selling itself.

IMO no question a QB needs to be recruited in this class.
I suspect that one of the QB's we have now will not be here next year.
Just a gut feeling...nothing more.

none of this matters if we keep running the same offensive and defensive schemes… we could have 11 5* starters on defense right now, and we'd still be getting torched… we could have 11 5* on offense and we'd still be scoring 14 pts against App State.
