Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White

TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail following Texas A&M's loss to Alabama.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • It is the first time the coaches have been on the road since the season started. They will be at games and out and about during the week.

  • The coaches will go see TJ Shanahan‍ and Austin Novosad‍. Novosad has chosen to stick with Baylor, but they are not done talking to him. I expect him to sign with Baylor. Texas A&M and Ohio State are still pushing for him.

  • All of the commits are pretty locked in. We’ve checked with multiple sources, and they are locked in. There’s been a Twitter army of Texas fans talking about flipping Anthony Hill‍. Until there is something to worry about, there is nothing to worry about.

  • Can the offense keep leaping in the second half of the season? Unless the offense improves, you going to be fighting these negative recruiting pitches. The light is not shut off in terms of recruiting or games. You can lose a bunch of those games, but they could also beat every one of those teams. If they keep winning, you set up some big home games as you near that December signing day.

  • A&M is playing young guys. That's a reason they won over David Hicks‍. Right now, it looks like they hit on every one of those defensive linemen.

  • Last Thursday, I was at Katy against Katy Paetow. On Friday, I watched Derek (DJ) Lagway‍ and Willis against College Park. Lagway threw three incompletions and five touchdown passes on the night. This is the first time I've seen him in person. A&M has maintained that he is their guy for the class of 2024.

  • Tomorrow, I will be at Richmond Foster vs. Manvel. On Friday, I’ll see Dripping Springs against Austin Westlake. That will be a top-15 matchup in 6A.

  • A lot of Oklahoma commits are looking at other schools. It helps with Hicks and Peyton Bowen‍. If Bowen decommits from Notre Dame, people think it's A&M or Oklahoma.

  • Anthony Evans‍ and his teammate Johnny Bowens‍ went on an official visit to Oregon. Georgia offered Evans, and now, Oregon thinks they can get both of them. I think A&M will get Evans on campus.

  • They are still in contact with PJ Hatter‍. I believe Darrell Dickey will go this week to see Rueben Owens‍ play. Jeremiyah Love‍ likes Notre Dame. Roderick Robinson‍ flipped from UCLA to Georgia after a visit. In that recruitment, we heard if an SEC school did the right stuff, they would get there. He flipped two days after his Georgia visit.

  • If A&M gets Tony Mitchell‍, it’s going to happen right before signing day.

  • I stay on the sideline at high school games. In the Houston area, I’m pretty familiar with who I talk to. For the bigger school districts, you have to put a credential request in early in the week.
