Week Eight's Overnight Sensation: Bryce Anderson, Defensive Back

Each Monday during the 2022 Texas A&M football season, we’ll identify a first or second-year Aggie player who delivered an exceptional performance over the weekend and earned the distinction of being the week’s ‘Overnight Sensation.’

Reppin’ the 409.

In a class of talented true freshmen, Bryce Anderson has made a name for himself as a standout player in A&M’s secondary.

Week after week, injuries have sidelined crucial members of A&M’s defense, but Anderson has seized his opportunity. Against South Carolina, the highly-touted Antonio Johnson did not see the field due to injury, but Anderson stepped up in his place.

Although the Aggies fell just short of executing a comeback, A&M compiled a solid defensive performance, holding the Gamecocks to 13 first downs and forcing two turnovers — both of which Anderson played a part in.

The true freshman totaled only three tackles but made his presence known all over the field. In the first quarter, while tackling South Carolina’s Juju McDowell, Anderson stripped the ball out to force his first turnover of his young career and assist in shifting South Carolina’s early momentum.

Freshman Bryce Anderson’s career tackle performance came against Miami (8).

Later in the game, Fadil Diggs sacked quarterback Spencer Rattler. When the ball came flying out, Anderson was the first man there to jump on it. In great field position, A&M’s offense scored on that next drive.

Anderson played a huge role in halting South Carolina’s offensive efforts, adding two tackles-for-loss to his accolades on Saturday night.

D.J. Durkin has relied on the Beaumont native heavily, as he has played in all seven games this season. During those games, the four-star out of West Brook High School has tallied 16 tackles, 10 of which were solo.

Anderson’s willingness to step up throughout the season speaks volumes to the type of player he is and has displayed outstanding grit so far in Maroon & White.
