Press Conference: Fisher, Ags ready for return to Kyle Field vs. Ole Miss

Texas A&M football is ready for the atmosphere at Kyle Field this Saturday against No. 15 Ole Miss after a long stretch away from home. On Monday, Jimbo Fisher, Max Wright, Demani Richardson and Randy Bond spoke to the media to preview the SEC West battle.

The following are live, paraphrased notes from Jimbo Fisher’s Monday afternoon media availability:

  • Looking at the film, lot of fight. Put ourselves behind early, behind 17-0. Never been there. We did make the plays. Didn't cover the kickoff well. Showed pride and character coming back. Really good drive opening up. Didn't get a score. Got a turnover and got back in the game. Moving the ball better. Defensively, nice job creating two turnovers. They had a very good team. It's disappointing. Had a nice onside kick. There fight is there. One play away. Got to get them to execute better. No one is happy, I will promise you that.

  • Everything you do, you are playing for your life. Just play. Have faith in what you do. The plays are there. They are frustrated. We have to find different ways to teach. They buy in and see. We got to coach them better. It’s a broken record. We are right there.

  • Inches matter. You fight for the inches. At the end of the day, you go with the guys you have and get them there.

  • I heard about SMU’s transfer situtaion. I don't see that happening with our guys. Your resume matters. There's an “i” in win. The guys don't want to bail. I don't see that happening.

  • Zach Evans is a heck of a player. I didn't want to play him. Thought the world of Zach.

  • I dont know if it the road stretch was tougher. It was difficult. The awareness of going on the road was fun but eye-opening.

  • The o-line rotating has played a factor in its production. I dont think there's any doubt about that. Those little things matter when it comes down to it.

  • The key to Ole Miss is running the ball. It's more RPOs, and the speed of the offense is one of the big secrets. They get you maxed out and take shots on you.

  • Quinshon Judkins and Zach Evans may be as good as a two-back set as we have played all year. Both are very good players.

  • We played well against the run last week. They get that running game going. You have to play well. Ole Miss is a very good team. Eight starters back from a year ago.

  • You have to play for the moment, but what do you tell that junior or senior that wants to play? We have to put the best team on the field and compete.

  • Six out of seven games were away in the first year. This is the only place I've had that. It’s good to be home.

  • Keep staying aggressive. We have to get the ball to the playmakers. We are going to stay aggressive, haven't achieved everything but moved the ball more. Stay consistent with drive and not stay behind the eight ball.

  • The coaching is not doing what we need to be doing. We are not happy where we are in any way shape or form. I wouldn't change anything we did at the beginning. Staying healthy was key. As far as coaching, we have to get them to understand it and get it, then get confidence in it and believe in it.

  • To recruits, the message is to look at what we are doing. Going somewhere that is winning all the time, and you may not play. Look at our young playmakers. Recruiting, there is no pitch. It's about relationships, truth and trust. There's no magic or pixie dust.

  • Bryce Foster, Aki Ogunbiyi and Jordan Moko are out for the year.

  • Haynes King “is going.” He played a good football game. Very solid game. Conner Weigman did a really nice job. He was prepared. His eyes were good and got the ball out. A couple of things I would like to have back but played very good.

  • With the portal, they get in there, and the players already know where they are going. Ole Miss has guys that have played a lot of football. They have a really nice team, and Lane Kiffin has done a nice job.

Maybe it's just me, but telling a recruit he may not play at a program that is "winning all the time" doesn't sound like a good selling point.

I truly believe in this coaching staff.

I truly believe that it was amazing we almost upset Appalachian State with this wonderful coaching staff.

So glad to hear that Haynes King will be able to throw more interceptions and pick-six loss inducing passes.

Is this idjit really so dense he cannot count the number of interceptions King has thrown vs Weigman's potential ability being good enough not to EVER throw that many??

Un****ing real how stubborn this bozo is…

He'll never adjust for the better of the team, we're gonna have to fire him

So basically to prove to everyone that he is right, he is willing to burn the whole thing to the ground. Not sure that is the mark of a person who is sane and of sound mind. I think Saban may have mentally broken Jimbo this summer.

It certainly seems to be, Jimbo.

We shouldn't be 'right there' trying to eek out wins vs App St or USCe. We should be beating those teams down over the course of 60 minutes. We aren't close to anything with this OL.

I know he has to show up every Monday but at this point it's prove it or shut up.

And I disagree with most of these comments. I think Jimbo Fisher is a great coach. A lot of these people writing comments act as though everything they've ever touched in their lives has always gone perfectly the first time. Well thank God y'all are perfect! This is not the case in real life. Jimbo has had a ton of injuries and is dealing with mistakes of inexperienced freshmen. Many of us knew at the beginning of this year that we were way over ranked. No body questioned the pie in the sky preseason rankings. I never thought we'd win the SEC with a bunch of inexperienced freshman. Reality of playing inexperienced freshmen in the SEC has come home to roost. Take away those ridiculous preseason ranking and no body has their panties in a wad. Reality, we were always going to have a bad year. Outsiders predicted 7/5 to 8/4. Jimbo is still a great coach. Things will turn around. Stop listening to the hype and start pay attention to reality! Gig 'em!

Jimbo said there is nothing he would have done different. The QB is by far the most important player and after 5 years we don't have a good serviceable QB that can move the ball down the field and score TD's more than once or twice per game without getting a turnover by the defense and a short field. We should have only one loss. This is Jimbo's main fault.

We're not asking for perfection off the bat

We're not even asking for perfection

We're asking to not get beat by multiple garbage teams in year 5

Can this clown have the slightest ounce of humility and admit that maybe he's doing something that isn't working and take a little bit of responsibility?

Glad we're stuck with him for the next decade. Thanks, A&M AD.
