Head men's basketball coach Buzz Williams prepares for fourth season
The 2022-23 Texas A&M men's basketball team kicks off its season this Friday in an exhibition match with Texas A&M-Kingsville. The head coach breaks down how offseason went, expectation for the season and more on Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio.
Key notes from Buzz Williams interview
- A lot of room for growth. Lot of new and returning players. All of us are excited. Our staff has been supreme in researching and studying in potential prospects entering the transfer portal. Knowing their character, do their daily habits translate? It’s happening at the speed of light when you hae to make these descisons. It’s a new model of college athletics. This past spring was the first time we could recruit in person. We got freshman Solomon Washington, Gatorade Player of the Year in Louisiana and Erik Pratt from junior college.
- Four transfer guys, one is a graduate and three have multiple years. We tried to sign younger guys so they could return and fit relative to us in their character. I commend our staff for a tremendous job.
- We have versaitly in our forward spots. We have to figure how to utilize guys and who plays together. We did that against a good opponent in Baylor on Saturday. We turned the ball over at too high of a rate. That was a negative. The connection and camaraderie that they played with is really, really good.
- Up until this year, the non-conference schedule had to measure out to a net 150. We scheduled higher team, credit to Ross Bjork and Justin Moore, But we had to change. There is no exact science. Teams change. It’s becoming a hard science to figure out scheduling. We have the best non-conference schedule so far.
