2023 Nashville (TN) quarterback Marcel Reed commits to Texas A&M
Texas A&M has been searching for the right fit at quarterback in the 2023 class. Well, search no more.
The Aggies have found their guy as Nashville (TN) Montgomery Bell Academy standout Marcel Reed announced his commitment to Texas A&M.
Reed checks in at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and has a diverse skillset. With his father, Rod Reed, being a coach, Marcel grew up a student of the game. He was a four-year starter, a two-year captain and led Tennessee powerhouse Montgomery Bell to back-to-back state title game appearances as a junior and senior.
In 2022, he completed 147 of 250 passes for 2,150 yards, 27 touchdowns and only six interceptions and rushed for 944 yards and 15 touchdowns on 146 carries on his way to Tennessee Mr. Football honors. Over the course of his career, Reed completed 420 of 750 passes for 6,309 yards, 62 touchdowns and 24 interceptions while rushing for 2,277 yards and 38 touchdowns on 442 carries.
Texas A&M offered Reed on June 1, 2021, and he camped at Texas A&M a few days later. After several camps and unofficial visits to programs across the country, he pledged to Ole Miss in April of 2022. The Aggies re-emerged as a school of interest in the fall of 2022, and Reed took an unofficial visit to Texas A&M for the Aggies’ season finale against LSU. He returned to College Station for his official visit the weekend before the December Signing Period, and following the trip, he announced his decision to decommit from Ole Miss and ultimately give his verbal pledge to Texas A&M.
He becomes Texas A&M’s 14th member of the 2023 recruiting class and the only quarterback in the class. Jimbo Fisher and Dameyune Craig led Texas A&M’s recruiting efforts.
