Texas A&M has been searching for the right fit at quarterback in the 2023 class. Well, search no more.

The Aggies have found their guy as Nashville (TN) Montgomery Bell Academy standout Marcel Reed‍ announced his commitment to Texas A&M.

Reed checks in at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and has a diverse skillset. With his father, Rod Reed, being a coach, Marcel grew up a student of the game. He was a four-year starter, a two-year captain and led Tennessee powerhouse Montgomery Bell to back-to-back state title game appearances as a junior and senior.

In 2022, he completed 147 of 250 passes for 2,150 yards, 27 touchdowns and only six interceptions and rushed for 944 yards and 15 touchdowns on 146 carries on his way to Tennessee Mr. Football honors. Over the course of his career, Reed completed 420 of 750 passes for 6,309 yards, 62 touchdowns and 24 interceptions while rushing for 2,277 yards and 38 touchdowns on 442 carries.

Texas A&M offered Reed on June 1, 2021, and he camped at Texas A&M a few days later. After several camps and unofficial visits to programs across the country, he pledged to Ole Miss in April of 2022. The Aggies re-emerged as a school of interest in the fall of 2022, and Reed took an unofficial visit to Texas A&M for the Aggies’ season finale against LSU. He returned to College Station for his official visit the weekend before the December Signing Period, and following the trip, he announced his decision to decommit from Ole Miss and ultimately give his verbal pledge to Texas A&M.

He becomes Texas A&M’s 14th member of the 2023 recruiting class and the only quarterback in the class. Jimbo Fisher and Dameyune Craig led Texas A&M’s recruiting efforts.

SCOUTING REPORT:

SIZE:
Marcel has very good size for a 2023 Dual Threat QB at 6'2" 175 lbs. This QB's able to turn it up at any given time. He's a playmaker on the field. Works fluidly from a pocket passer to a legit dual threat. Very agile, difficult to contain in the pocket.
ACCURACY:
Able to hit his receivers in stride on the deep ball, just over the defender's reach. Throws made in the short and intermediate range include a very catchable ball, allowing for the receiver to make a play on it. Tight precision. Very consistent delivery, adding to his accuracy.
ARM STRENGTH:
Good range on his throws, able to get the ball to any area. High velocity throws over the middle along with tight trajectory on his deep passes. Strong forward momentum on his follow through.
RELEASE:
Marcel throws with a high release point and fully extended arm motion. Able to get the ball out quickly with good accuracy. An over the top extension added height to his throws. Very good footwork prior to setup.
THROW ON RUN:
He's a very athletic QB who shows good mobility and quickness as he works to the outside. Does a nice job lining up with his receivers.
FOOTWORK:
A quick first step out of the box. Able to create separation from defenders with burst of speed. Very agile within the pocket, able to move sharply in all directions.
POISE:
He's a playmaker who controls the game with his athleticism and intelligence. Does a nice job picking up on defensive pressure, either stepping up or moving laterally.
POCKET PRESENCE:
Marcel serves as a pure Dual Threat, with many weapons in his arsenal. He works in and out of the pocket with very good agility, creating added space for himself.
DECISION MAKING:
He's a smart QB who makes quick decisions while on the run. Does a nice job locating his primary targets, making decisive throws.
TOUCH:
Does a nice job adjusting the angles and velocity of his throws, creating a softer release. This is an area of strength for Marcel, he's perfected his ability to add a soft touch on his fade routes. Showing excellent trajectory and location.

King's senior season in HS was complete garbage compared to this kid here. Also a better throwing motion and way faster runner than King.
