Texas A&M picks up former UNC CB Tony Grimes via transfer portal
Texas A&M has landed a high-profile player out of the transfer portal today in cornerback Tony Grimes.
A former five-star recruit and priority Aggie target out of high school in the class of 2020, Grimes chose to play for the Tar Heels at North Carolina very late in that cycle. He didn't commit until July 2020 and enrolled at Chapel Hill at the beginning of that August.
Originally out of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach (VA), Grimes played in 32 games for Mack Brown at North Carolina, where he intercepted one pass and tallied 74 total tackles while forcing one fumble in three seasons. He led the Atlantic Coast Conference with nine total passes defended in the 2021 campaign.
The 6-foot, 195-pounder is expected to come in and compete immediately for the starting role at corner.
Overall, Grimes is the Aggies’ first portal addition.
