Texas A&M adds former Colorado State RB David Bailey via transfer portal

Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies continue to keep an eye on the transfer portal, and now they have added some valuable experience to the ground attack with the new addition of Colorado State running back David Bailey.

Fisher announced Bailey’s addition on Monday at Coach’s Night with the Houston A&M Club.

At 6-foot, 240 pounds, Bailey adds a powerful punch to the Texas A&M backfield. He is an experienced downhill runner who will join a familiar face in Aggieland. He originally signed with current Texas A&M offensive line coach and then-Boston College head coach Steve Addazio out of Ridgeline (MD) North Caroline in the 2018 class, and he joined him at Colorado State in 2021.

Twice, he led Addazio-coached teams in rushing, and he has rushed for over 2,400 yards and 26 touchdowns in his college career. As a junior at Boston College in 2020, he started 10 games and rushed for 503 yards and eight touchdowns on 127 carries, and in 2021 at Colorado State, he rushed for 752 and nine touchdowns on 197 carries.

As a sophomore at Boston College in 2019, he also finished second on the team to AJ Dillon with 857 yards and seven touchdowns on 148 carries, and as a true freshman in 2018, he rushed for 256 yards and two scores on 57 carries. In 2022, he only played in three games and rushed for 68 yards on 20 carries before announcing his decision to transfer.

Bailey will join the Aggies as a graduate transfer with one year to play. He is the seventh transfer the Aggies have added to the roster joining CB Tony Grimes (North Carolina), CB Sam McCall (Florida State), CB Joshua DeBerry (Boston College), LB Jurriente “JD” Davis (Jackson State), QB Jaylen Henderson (Fresno State), and FB Jerry Johnson III (Rice).

Bailey chose Boston College over the likes of East Carolina, Indiana, Marshall, Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia, and he was the No. 1 running back prospect in Maryland out of North Caroline High in 2018.
