On Tuesday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox selected Texas A&M outfielder Stanley Tucker in the 19th round of the 2023 MLB Draft with the 568th overall pick.

Tucker becomes the first Aggie outfielder to be taken in the current selection process.

In just one year at Texas A&M, Tucker hit .273 with two doubles and eight runs scored. In just 22 appearances in the Maroon & White, he was 6-for-22 and started just three games.

A junior from Richmond, Texas, Tucker spent two seasons in the junior college ranks before transferring to Texas A&M for the 2023 campaign. After one season at Wharton JC in 2021, he enjoyed an incredible year at New Mexico Junior College, where he was a first-team NJCAA All-American. That spring, he hit .407 with 17 home runs and 90 RBIs.

In his little playing time as an Aggie, Tucker still found ways to be impactful. The 12th Man will remember him best for his heroics in a Sunday victory over eventual national champion LSU in March. That afternoon, Tucker entered off the bench and went 2-for-2 with a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth.

Having entered the transfer portal prior to the draft, the outfielder can return for another year of college baseball should he reject Boston’s offer.

Ryan Brauninger's scout on Stanley Tucker

“Very good athlete that offers some positional versatility. Plays with plus feel and instincts, both defensively and on the bases. Put up quality numbers in junior college prior to coming to Texas A&M, which put him on a lot of radars. Didn’t get a ton of innings this year but did flash playmaking qualities when he did come into games. Will likely stick at second base if his future is in the infield.”
