Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White
TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.
Key notes from Recruting Country
- Josh Moses just committed. I am working on an interview with his high school head coach, who just happens to be Michael Bishop. He is the head coach at Houston Legacy. It always felt like he wouldn't do that for the recruiting message for very long. A&M checked a lot of boxes for him. After he committed, he want to open his BBQ restaurant. He had been to the barbeque when Terry Price was around, and Stiles Switch BBQ cooked it this year. He said that was an inspiration for him. He wants to get a business degree first. He also talked about his relationship with Steve Addazio and what A&M is for kids from greater Houston.
- The 2025 offensive line class in that state is deep and talented. A&M clearly saw something in him to take him this early. Addazio, likes to take one kid that he knows can play center. Josh plays guard in high school. He is very smart and very even-keeled. Same deal with Coen Echols.
- We said since the pool party that, A&M had built a ton of momentum with Isendre Ahfua. When a kid from Seattle comes for an unofficial when there is no football, that should tell you a whole lot. He was around his high school teammate Mark Nabou when he was here and TJ Shanahan, who has some Polynesian in his background as well. He has a long-standing relationship with the staff and specifically Steve Addazio. I think it's going in A&M's favor. Utah has made a big push, and I believe he has a relative on staff there.
- Blake Ivy has been quiet for his whole recruiting process. He has kept it private. What we are hearing is A&M jumped out to a lead. LSU got it back to even. A&M got him back for the pool party. We thought he was close to making a decision. Now, it's a coin flip, and nobody knows when he will announce.
- Xavier Atkins has not directly told us to take off the LSU commit list. He has not put out anything that says he is decommitted, but the term would not even do it justice. He is essentially back on the open market without saying that he is. He moved from Louisiana to Houston. I think Utah, A&M and Arkansas would be the best bets for him right now, with A&M leading that pack. I could see something happening there between now and middle of September.
- Deyjhon Pettaway is Daymion Sanford's younger brother that will be a high 4-star or 5-star. Katy Paetow is a program A&M has done well at. Deyjhon was at the pool party and watched open practice. I expect his name to pop up on the visitor list quite a bit. I think he is amongst that group of elite players in the class of 2023 that A&M has an outstanding chance of landing.
- They have to take one running back. With Nate Frazier going to Georgia, I think they will wait a couple of weeks and do a big film evaluation of the guys on their board.
- I think A&M is in a good spot with Terry Bussey. No definitive commitment date, but I think end of the month or early September. If it goes longer than that, you feel like someone is crashing the party.
- Miles O'Neill is skyrocketing up recruiting rankings. He looks insanely talented. That was a fantastic evaluation by Jimbo Fisher and Bobby Petrino. Their evaluations have been outstanding.
