A healthy Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy is 'hungry' for redemption in 2023
Entering his sophomore season in Aggieland, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy is ready to prove to the world what the Aggies are capable of this fall. Courtesy of Pintail Hunting Club, GDB sat down for an exclusive interview to detail his excitement for the 2023 campaign and much more.
Key notes from Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy interview
- The vibes have been amazing. Compared to last year, you can see the difference. We’re more together, and we know what our goal is. It’s redemption and revenge. I see a different mindset. The offense and defense are going at it, but it’s a friendly battle. We know we need to make each other better in every practice.
- Being healthy is amazing. Last year at the time, I was still in protocol and couldn’t even put pads on. It has been different, and I’ve enjoyed every single bit of it. Being able to actually prepare for the season has been amazing.
- Last year, with the knee injury, I was definitely hesitating more and favoring that knee. This offseason, we worked on it. We worked on the strength and speed aspects of it. I feel like a new person right now. I am still around 300 pounds, and I feel great. I feel like I can run endlessly.
- Getting some experience last season felt good. Clearing that thing in your mind is a big burden to lift off of you. I enjoyed trying to get better because I was still behind even during the spring. I get to learn technique more now, and it has been great.
- To hear my teammates say great things about me is an honor. When you ask who is going to stand out, it’s hard to answer. The strides I see people making in practice, it’s not just one person. Every single person is making strides each day. Everyone is putting in work. It’s hard to pick who is going to stand out. The depth is crazy. Each of us is working as hard as we can to put something forth for this team. The strides I’m seeing in practice are amazing.
- We already know about Isaiah Raikes, McKinnley Jackson and Walter Nolen. The part people don’t know about is the guys behind them. What’s going to happen when those guys get in? We have some dawgs that are ready to hit somebody after those guys come off the field.
- We have been confident as a defense. We’re on a revenge tour. It’s time to either work or get left behind, and we understand that we’ll get left behind if we don’t work. We know we’re in the best conference, and we could get left behind if we don’t work every day of every week.
- Mark Nabou and Kam Dewberry are both ready to work. They have hard punches. Those two offensive linemen stand out.
- I don’t know who is running the ball until we watch film after. The running backs are just like the defensive line. They have depth. We have so many options in the backfield that it’s crazy. They all complement each other, and there’s going to be no stopping them.
- We’ve been emphasizing the need to stop the run a lot this year. Last year was not the best year for running yardage, but we’ve made it a point this year. We’re filling those gaps and stopping the run. Those first two downs are going to be our main downs that we’re focused on stopping the run. We’re going to force teams to throw on third down.
- Usually when people are watching a football game, you don’t watch the offensive and defensive lines unless you’ve played those positions. When people get sacks, it’s because the pocket is getting condensed. Quarterbacks react to that by rolling out, and that’s when ends get involved. Or ends just beat guys off the line.
- McKinnley Jackson has explosiveness like no other. I try to mirror what he does. He comes straight off the line and shoots his hands. It’s crazy. He’s more explosive than anybody I’ve ever seen.
- Having that twitch takes experience. A lot of things come with rushing the passer, and it’s not just explosiveness. You could be explosive, but if you don’t shoot your hands, nothing is going to happen. You have to work on everything together. It’s more difficult than it sounds, but at times, you don’t have to think at all. There is a lot more that goes into it than the average eye sees.
- The plays that Bobby Petrino has been throwing up there is wild. It’s not just a set offense. There is a variety of everything. As a defense, we have to think and decipher a lot more, and that's good for us too. I definitely see a change in what the offense is doing.
- I cannot wait for Sept. 2. I got it taken away from me some last year, and I’m hungry for it. The entire team is hungry to show the world what we can do after what happened last year.
