Josh Snead chats about SEC Shorts LIVE! coming to College Station

Josh Snead joined Wednesday’s edition of TexAgs Radio to discuss SEC Shorts LIVE! making its’ way to College Station on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Rudder Theatre as well as his story, what SEC Shorts is and how it came to be.

• I grew up in the Cy-Fair area and left in 1992. Everybody remembers watching the Rockets championship because that was the OJ Simpson chase. As soon as I left, the Astros started winning the World Series.
   
• In the last couple of years, we started doing live shows. When you make videos on the internet, you don’t really have interactions with your fans except in the comment sections. It’s fun to have that live interaction and get that immediate response. We came up with the idea to take the show on the road. We’ve done the Iron Bowl and some shows in Athens and Birmingham. It’s a variety show. We do trivia, sketches, improv, audience games and a little bit of everything.
   
• The year the kick six happened, we made a video the next day, where the announcers didn’t know you could return a missed kick, so they just start talking about overtime while he was returning the kick. The announcers kept saying, “Get the fans off the field, we’ve got to start overtime.” It kind of went viral, and we thought it was fun. About the same time, Paul Finebaum got his own show, and people could send in videos for him to talk about, so we thought we should send in a polished sketch. They liked it and started sending in sketches every week. At the end of the season, people started paying us to do it and we just ran with it.
   
• For the longest time, Tennessee fans were the easiest to make fun of. Then, last year when they were doing well, they expected more praise. We put up with eight years of you making fun of us, so now can you give us some praise? The worst sports about it are Auburn fans. They don’t seem to have the best sense of humor.
   
• I just watched the Johnny Manziel documentary, and I thought man we missed out on a time. Him going out, showing up hungover, the autograph signings and never doing game study are some great ideas. There would’ve been so many opportunities to work with. Usually in the offseason, we’ve gone back to different eras of college football. Maybe for the live show, we will put something in from the Manziel years. Being an Alabama fan, watching the documentary gave me bad memories. I was at that game, and it was my first introduction to A&M fans.
   
• On Saturdays, we try to watch a bit of all the big games. We wait to see what happens, then once we decide the game and the angle we want to take, we’ll start kicking jokes around. On Sunday, we will start a script, find a location, make props, shoot it and edit it. We work all day Sunday, and it goes up Monday at 8:00 a.m. It’s a quick turnaround.
   
• Our sports takes form our comedy, but we try to look at it from a neutral perspective and do what we think is funny. We don’t go after specific individuals unless it's Lane Kiffin because he has a good sense of humor about it.
   
• Investors will come up to us and say you should do Big Ten shorts. We wouldn’t be able to do another conference and get it up in time. It’s a niche area to be in. You have to have a cross-section of acting, film writing and a love for college football. It’s tough to replicate.
   
• We would love to come by. We are getting into town Monday. The show is Wednesday then we have dinner at the library. We might add a second show because tickets are almost sold out, but it’s not for sure right now. If people are interested in the show, you can find tickets HERE. Tickets are $12.
