Everyone's favorite SEC Network anchor Peter Burns joined Wednesday morning's edition of TexAgs Radio as Week 1 is officially here. Burns discusses his thoughts on the Aggies this fall and breaks down the other SEC games this weekend.

Key notes from Peter Burns interview

  • I needed a little Robert Earl Keen in my life. I'm up here in New York City doing radio. I am hearing all this music, but I needed my Texas roots to come back.

  • A&M's ceiling is 11 wins, in my mind. That is not out of the realm of possibility. Can they be a College Football Playoff Team? LSU and Alabama have questions. I absolutely could see a situation where you could see A&M losing to one of those two, and be on the outside looking in of Atlanta and still have an opportunity to get into the College Football Playoff. I don’t think they will be undefeated, but they can possibly beat LSU and Alabama.

  • Not making it to Atlanta could be a blessing in disguise. You could be an 11-1 A&M squad and not have to face, most likely, Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Then, you are in the College Football Playoff.

  • I think Mississippi State is good. Ole Miss is good. Arkansas is good with K.J. Jefferson and Raheim “Rocket” Sanders. In a four-team playoff, you almost have to be flawless. This upcoming year, there are levels you can go to. In college basketball, you can be an okay team and then work towards making the NCAA Tournament. In college football, it's pass or fail. The Aggies have frankly failed.

  • Just like A&M has Max Johnson as a backup quarterback, LSU has Garrett Nussmeier. It's not a situation that if Jayden Daniels goes down, we are hosed. LSU's quarterback situation, outside of Caleb Williams at USC, is probably the best in the country. You have two legitimate QB1s on that roster. You could say that about A&M. I would much rather have A&M's quarterback situation than Alabama's. That's a no-brainer.

  • LSU vs. Florida State this weekend is like having a mulligan in your pocket. It's like going into a golf tournament knowing if you screw up, you still get a do-over. I think Florida State is pretty good, but not as good as everyone is making them out to be. If it's a loss and a close loss, it really doesn't hurt LSU as long as FSU plays well. That's why they like these monster matchups in the beginning. I still think LSU offensively is being slept on.

  • Nick Saban was talking about making one of his quarterbacks play him, saying, "Be so good that I cannot not play you." No one has stepped up.

  • If Ty Simpson or Tyler Buchner have not stepped up, you will roll with Jalen Milroe. It won't be great, but they will figure it out. I think it's Milroe's team. I am afraid Alabama will go back to the same old-school Alabama where they run the ball.

  • I can't imagine Cam Rising at Utah will play against Florida. I talked to some people who said he is not even medically cleared. If that is the case, there is no way. Their backup quarterback is coming off an injury too. Florida can go steal one out there in Utah. Can they do it? I don't know. I think Florida will struggle to make a bowl this season.

  • Rocket Sanders is pretty good in Fayetteville. The thing about Quinshon Judkins is he was so quick and twitchy last year, and now he has put on 15 pounds. They are getting him to catch the ball out of the backfield. That's the missing element in Judkins' game. If he figures that out, he may be New York City as a Heisman finalist. I don’t think he can win it because voters don’t vote for running backs, and I don't think Ole Miss will win enough games.

  • When the strongest brands of the ACC are against adding anyone else, they almost want the conference to fail. They want it to dissolve so they can go to the SEC or Big Ten. That's the course we are on in college football is having two major conferences like the NFL.
