SEC play continues to heat up for A&M soccer with Ole Miss heading to town this Friday. Head coach G Guerrieri joins Wednesday's edition of TexAgs Radio to detail the matchup as well as the Turn It Gold movement to BTHO childhood cancer.
Key notes from G Guerrieri interview
- We got “soccered.” Arkansas admitted the same thing. We knew it would be a tough week paying the two most physical teams in the SEC — Arkansas and Ole Miss. We play with rhythm. They like to ugly it up. We were going to have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Thursday, we went on the road to Starkville, and we are up against it in the second half. We turned the game. They got a red card. That really changed the game. We got the winning goal with seven minutes to play.
- We played an Arkansas team that beat Alabama, 5-0. We outplayed Arkansas. In the second half, we created a lot more chances. We hit the post three times. We got “soccered.” Our players know we can beat anybody. We beat ourselves on Sunday night. We are playing really well. We can beat anybody in the country right now. Seven games to go that are all beneficial against opponents that have RPIs ahead of us. Let's regroup.
- It's our Turn It Gold night against Ole Miss. We need a big crowd on Friday night. We have been doing Turn It Gold for 10 years. Gold is the official color for childhood cancer awareness. Almost 90,000 kids a year die from childhood cancer. Turn It Gold was started by two Aggie moms in Houston. They have raised millions of dollars. Everything these women do goes to research to help these kids. We will be selling yellow jerseys for $15 at the stadium. The game-worn jerseys will be up for auction. We will sell gold scarves, and all of those sell out. We easily raise over $25,000. It's a great cause. Buy a jersey at 12thMan.com/TurnitGold.
- We are without Kate Colvin and Carolyn Calzada, who is our fastest defender. With that said, our defense was spectacular. We have good competition on the team.
- I fully expect them to step up. We have everything in front of us. I am pleased with how the coaching staff has adjusted as well. The law of averages has to turn around for us.
