The recruiting action continues to move at rapid pace across the Texas recruiting trails, and now it is time to dive into the latest news, notes and headlines.

Big Gets

2025 ATH Chris Jimerson‍ chooses TCU

2026 RB Jonathan Hatton Jr‍ commits to Oklahoma

Headlines

Shake up with Boston College – A couple of Texas standouts shook things up with Boston College. Denton Guyer wide receiver Josiah Martin‍, who committed to BC in June, decided to take another look at his options, while Mesquite Horn receiver Cedric Lott‍ announced his decommitment before deciding to recommit later in the day.

New Name to Know

ATH JJ Garner‍, Timpson (TX) – 2025

At 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, Garner is a versatile and explosive weapon on both sides of the ball and a magnet for the endzone. In 2023, he has played QB, RB and DB, and he has scored touchdowns throwing, receiving, rushing and on defense. Garner has accounted for 20 touchdowns on the season, averages 13.3 yards a rush, 19 yards a reception and over 1,200 yards of offense. On defense, he has 11 TFLs, a sack, a scoop and score, an interception for a touchdown and a safety.

Garner versatile skillset runs in the family. He is Terry Bussey‍’s cousin, and it should come as no surprise he studies and considers Alvin Kamara his football role model. As for his explosion, it also comes through in the weight room as well where he boasts a 225-pound bench max and a 500-pound squat max.

College coaches are quickly taken notice. Garner did not attend any camps this summer, but scholarship offers have already arrived from Oregon State and UTSA. He also recently took visits to Baylor and Texas Tech.

In addition to football, Garner is also a standout on the track and on the basketball court. He is a point guard on the varsity basketball team, and he competes in the 4x200m and the high jump on the track.
