Falling the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Texas A&M soccer's 2023 season has come to an end. On Wednesday morning, head coach G Guerrieri joined TexAgs Radio to offer his thoughts on the overall season and what's ahead for the program.
Key notes from G Guerrieri interview
- I can't tell you how many times our path in the NCAA Tournament has led us to the No. 1 team on their home field. That makes it difficult. Florida State is a hell of a team. Our game was a back-and-forth affair. Their scoring goal was a long ball that was headed across that was sidenetted. That's how we lost 1-0. That's what it took. It was a fantastic goal.
- I could not be prouder of our players. Two days later, Florida State crushed Texas 5-0. Now, FSU will play in the Elite Eight again. They are the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for a reason.
- It was a good year for growth. 2024 is what this team is building for. This backline is fantanstic. Carolyn Calzada is the leader of it. The Matula sisters will come back. Sydney Becerra emerged this year.
- The transfer portal is open for us. We got Jazmine Wilkinson out of the portal last year. Sammy Smith, too. We are looking for a striker or two. Wilkinson needs help. It will be open until Dec. 12. We are already in communication with talented people.
- The signing period used to be in February. Our focus was square on Colorado, but we signed a terrific class of seven kids. They are graduating early to play with us in the spring.
- We do a Charity Golf Classic. We raise money for families in College Station. CoachGGolf.com. It helps kids play soccer. It's on Dec 4 at Traditions. There is also a live auction with amazing items on there.
- For me to be here for 30 years, I am the luckiest guy in the world.
