In this week's Apex Performances of the Week, we highlight Texas A&M football's Max Wright, Jake Johnson and Jaylen Henderson following their big games at LSU last Saturday. Additionally, Aggie basketball's Solomon Washington shined on Sunday vs. Iowa State.

David Nuño’s Performance of the Week: A&M TEs Max Wright & Jake Johnson

  • Solomon Washington! How about Solo's game, huh?

  • Let's keep it on the field; the tight ends for Texas A&M. We will not see Max Wright anymore. He is a great Aggie. I loved his press conferences and loved the way he played. He can block. He can catch. He did it all. I do not want to speculate about guys going into the portal. I understand why people are speculating about Jake Johnson because of his brother. I hope he is here. I imagine Theo Melin Öhrström, Jake and Donovan Green next year potentially being phenomenal and Jaden Platt. There you go!

  • Jaylen Henderson did really well. He did not play like a third-string QB. Look at that stat line. It is really good. He was 25-of-35 for 294 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. He played really, really well.

  • Let's do one more. How about we give one to Mike Elko? The right tone. The right message. The right blue-collar mentality.

Olin Buchanan’s Performance of the Week: Solomon Washington

  • Solomon Washington came in that game vs. Iowa State and scored 18 points. He had two huge free throws late in the game. He rebounded. He just played great. When there are injury issues, you count on somebody else to step up. Washington did that. He gave a glimpse that he is capable of doing that moving forward.

  • Max Wright had a drop, but he redeemed himself when he turned that short pass into a 51-yard touchdown. Jake Johnson had a touchdown that wasn't as long, but he cut upfield and shook off a tackle. The tight ends played admirably against LSU.

  • I thought Jaylen Henderson, as a third-string quarterback, did a heck of a job. Overall, look at what he has done since he became the starting quarterback. He has played much better than anyone could have hoped. I like that kid.

  • Mike Elko won the press conference without trying to win the press conference.

Indeed. This is a man of substance, conviction, and work ethic. Humble, not big on ceremony, but just exuding competence and know-how.

Like many others on these boards, Elko was not my first choice. I think, however, when the dust settles and the future becomes the past, we'll be damn glad we got him.
