'100 percent': Charean Williams backs Mike Elko as right hire for A&M

During Tuesday's edition of TexAgs Radio, ProFootballTalk.com's Charean Williams joined the show to chat about Mike Elko, the Texas A&M football team's newest head coach and former Aggie defensive coordinator, before diving into the top performances from Aggies in the NFL.

• I feel like we got the right guy, 100 percent. We took a long route to get there, but Mike Elko is absolutely the right hire. What's done is done. You ended up with the right guy, and I'm fired up. I watched the press conference. To see his family singing every word of the War Hymn and starting with "Howdy," they just get it. I wanted to run through a wall for him. The best thing he said was that we're not going to talk about it. We're going to be about it.
   
• Don't give out trophies without a date on it. Don't do any of that. Forget what people say. Just go do it. Get ready. I love everything I've heard so far from Mike Elko, and I knew he would. He was the one guy that would fire me up. He was the choice from the beginning, and I'm so happy we ended up with him. He's exactly who I wanted in this coaching hire, and hopefully, good things will follow in the next few years.
   
• Think about the feelings we've had over the last few weeks vs. today. It's completely different.
   
• Elko called out the Texas High School Coaches Association. High school coaches heard that. They had a problem with Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M. Elko spent a couple of minutes talking about them, and I think that was huge. It shows where the program is vs. where it is going. Hiring Elko was huge for A&M in the eyes of high school coaches in this state.
   
• There are two huge hires you have to make, and that's the offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, which we haven't had. I was talking to John McClain, and he told me he hopes the Aggies don't come get Jerrod Johnson, who is doing a great job with the Houston Texans. Hopefully we look at Johnson, who would be a natural fit being an Aggie. Whoever Elko gets, it needs to be a really good hire. And then it has to be about the offensive line coach and special teams coach. You've got to get a special teams coordinator in here, and there are a lot of them out there.

Aggies in the NFL

• For the first week in a long time, Myles Garrett is not on this list. Josh Reynolds gets an honorable mention, too. Braden Mann had five punts.
   
• 3. I want to give the offensive linemen some love. Jake Matthews has played 754 snaps this year with only four penalties. He has played pretty darn well, and the Falcons are now in first place.
   
• 2. Christian Kirk had four catches for 89 yards in that win over the Texans. The Jaguars are now in first place in the AFC South by two games, and he's a big reason why.
   
• 1. Justin Madubuike had half of a sack. He has 10 sacks now. That's the first time a Raven has reached double-digit sacks since Terrell Suggs in 2017. Madubuike is now in concussion protocol, but the Ravens do not play next week.
