Texas A&M adds former Central Michigan S Trey Jones via transfer portal
Texas A&M has landed one of the most experienced defensive backs in the transfer portal today as former Central Michigan DB Trey Jones has announced his intentions to continue his collegiate career in College Station.
The Wetumpka, Alabama, native fought through some injury troubles a few years ago and emerged as one of the top players in the MAC in the last two seasons — earning all-conference honors in 2022 and 2023.
Overall, Jones is Mike Elko's fifth pledge from the portal, and he joins Will Lee as new additions to next year's defensive back room.
In his career at Central Michigan, Jones played in 44 games, where he totaled 188 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and eight pass breakups. He had one forced fumble as well as one fumble recovery and also blocked a kick.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder offers a lot of position versatility on the back end of the defense but has made his name as a physical presence who likes to be around the box. Jones had whittled his stops down to Texas A&M, Georgia and Florida before ultimately choosing the Aggies.
