Saturday Down South’s Connor O’Gara joined Friday morning’s episode of TexAgs Radio as we are in the heat of transfer portal season. With bowl games approaching, O’Gara shared his thoughts on all the biggest college football storylines around the country.

Key notes from Connor O’Gara interview

  • I am doing well. Is there anything going on in College Station?

  • I will be honest, I thought A&M was turning the corner after the Orange Bowl. That established an identity in 2020. It is different to play against reduced SEC crowds. There were still cracks in the foundation of seeing the offense evolve.

  • Kellen Mond's durability is such an underrated thing. It’s the third year of A&M not having a starting quarterback stay healthy. How much of that is because your offense is too predictable?

  • You could pick and choose spots where it wasn't working. You had six years, and you cannot just have that one good season that makes you feel like things are headed in the right direction.

  • I don’t think I have ever said anything negative about Mike Elko. When this search started, I hoped Elko would be the guy. I wanted to see him come back to College Station because I loved what he did in his four years there. I thought it was vastly under discussed nationally how good that defense was. Elko won more games in that two-year stretch at Duke than A&M did.

  • Bring in Collin Klein, he is on the short list of anybody in the country that I would pick. I like what I have seen so far.

  • I am in the midst of a deep dive into the guys in the 2021 and 2022 classes and how many of those top 100 recruits have transferred. I did a breakdown of the SEC. I think its soon to look at the class of 2023. It is fascinating.

  • If you are bummed about your school recruiting class, maybe don't be. If you are excited, I would say don’t be as excited. Guys at the blue-chip level are transferring. The portal has taken on such an important role. That Early Signing Period has taken a back seat.

  • I consider Bobby Petrino a splash hire, wherever he goes. He improved the A&M offense. I love what Jaylen Henderson became.

  • I am hoping Jim Harbaugh ends up with my Chicago Bears. He could end up with the Chargers.
