Jackie Sherrill shares takeaways from A&M's 10-point road win
It was an up-and-down afternoon for Texas A&M, yet the 14th-ranked Aggies left Starkville with a win to make it six straight this past Saturday. On Monday's edition of TexAgs Live, legendary coach Jackie Sherrill discusses the Aggies' performance against the Bulldogs.
Key notes from Jackie Sherrill interview
- I am doing well, especially after the win, which moved us to 6-1 and 4-0 in the conference. The last four conference games, LSU, South Carolina, Auburn and Texas, is a pretty difficult task.
- Most people think you can check the box for a win when you go to Starkville, but it is a tough place to play. Even though the size of the stadium is not as big as stadiums at Texas A&M or Tennessee, it is just as loud.
- Michael Van Buren Jr. played very well. Watching him for the last two or three games, he has performed. He has a lot of talent. On the three touchdowns, is that our lack of coverage or is he that good? I can't answer that until we play LSU or South Carolina, who has improved a lot. Texas will throw the ball as well.
- As a defensive coach, you try to eliminate the run or the pass. It is very difficult to eliminate both. The first thing you want to eliminate is the run game.
- I think Conner Weigman is getting better. Le'Veon Moss is helping the offense. If they can continue to rely on him, that will help Weigman. The concern is why there were two interceptions. Weigman did not have a great game. He was only 15-for-25 with 217 yards and two interceptions. You would not say it was one of his best games.
- This game with LSU is big. The Aggies and LSU are the only undefeated teams left in conference play. Hopefully, we will come out 5-0, and they will be 3-1.
- Kyle Field is worth seven points because of the noise and fans' reaction. Kyle Field will recognize you for good play. You can go around the country and ask which stadium knows football. You can go into many stadiums where the fans are not football-savvy.
