On Sunday, it was announced Texas A&M is headed to Nevada to play in the 2024 SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl against one of college football’s most recognizable brands.
The Aggies (8-4, 5-3) will face the Southern California Trojans (6-6, 4-5) on Friday, Dec. 27 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, NV.
Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN.
The 2024 Las Vegas Bowl will be A&M’s 44th bowl appearance and the Maroon & White’s second in a row after participating in the 2023 TaxAct Texas Bowl last year.
Overall, A&M is 23-20 in the postseason and has not won a bowl game since beating North Carolina on Jan. 2, 2021, to win the program’s first Orange Bowl crown.
This season — Mike Elko’s first as A&M’s head coach — saw the Ags capture a pair of top-10 victories in October and enter November in first place in the Southeastern Conference. However, A&M dropped its last three league games to tumble out of the conference and national title races.
A chance to diminish that bitter taste comes against USC.
Conversely, 2024 was also a year of firsts for third-year head coach Lincoln Riley’s Men of Troy, who made their Big Ten debut. After a marquee non-conference win over LSU to begin the season, USC lost four of its first five conference games. The Trojans became bowl-eligible with a cross-town victory over UCLA in the regular season's penultimate week.
Winners of 11 national titles — but none since 2004 — USC has played in 55 bowl games with a record of 35-20 prior to this year’s Las Vegas Bowl.
This will be the third A&M-USC postseason matchup and fourth overall. The Aggies and Trojans last met in the 1977 Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston, with USC defeating A&M 47-28. The two schools also played in the 1975 Liberty Bowl, which USC won 20-0. In regular-season play, A&M and USC played a 1964 contest at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with the home side winning 31-7.
Perhaps what happens in Vegas could jumpstart the Aggie momentum entering 2025.

Otherwise, a bowl loss would mean ending our season with 3 consecutive losses and 4 consecutive losses to Power 4 teams. Our only win in our last 5 games would be over New Mexico State after a 7-1 (5-0 SEC) start. That would be similar to 2016 when we started 6-0 (4-0 SEC and 5-0 Power 5) only to lose 5 of our last 7 games, and our only two wins in that span were in cupcake games against New Mexico State and UTSA. We lost our last 4 SEC games and our last 5 Power 4 games, including a 33-28 loss to Kansas State in the Texas Bowl.
