Southeastern Conference announces Texas A&M's 2025 football schedule

December 11, 2024

True, the 2024 campaign isn’t officially over until Mike Elko and the Aggies take on USC on Dec. 27 in the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl.

However, the Southeastern Conference has already announced the league games for the 2025 season.

The schedules were announced on Wednesday night.

It was already known that A&M’s SEC opponents would be the “reverse” of the 2024 slate. For example, the Aggies met the Texas Longhorns at Kyle Field this November, so next year, the Maroon & White will travel to Austin...that Nov. 29 showdown will be A&M’s first trip to the state capital since 2010.

A&M’s season-opener features UTSA’s first trip to Aggieland since 2019. Other non-conference dates include the return to South Bend to face Notre Dame (Sept. 13) and home games vs. Utah State (Sept. 6) and Samford (Nov. 22).

After a 21-17 A&M triumph at AT&T Stadium this year, the “Southwest Classic” vs. Arkansas shifts back to campus, with A&M venturing to Fayetteville on Oct. 18. It will be the Ags’ first trip to Northwest Arkansas since 2013 and just the third since 1990.

Conference home games at Kyle Field feature dates with Mississippi State (Oct. 4) and Florida (Oct. 11), as well as opportunities for revenge against Auburn (Sept. 27) and South Carolina (Nov. 15).

After a November to forget in 2024, the final month of the regular season sees A&M play four games in four weeks, beginning at Mizzou (Nov. 8), vs. South Carolina and Samford before concluding in Austin.

Lastly, for the Aggies foolishly planning fall 2025 weddings, A&M’s open dates fall on Sept. 20 and Nov. 1. Plan accordingly...if you must.

2025 Texas A&M football schedule

  • Aug. 30 - vs. UTSA - Bryan-College Station, TX
  • Sept. 6 - vs. Utah State - Bryan-College Station, TX
  • Sept. 13 - at Notre Dame - South Bend, IN
  • Sept. 27 - vs. Auburn - Bryan-College Station, TX
  • Oct. 4 - vs. Mississippi State - Bryan-College Station, TX
  • Oct. 11 - vs. Florida - Bryan-College Station, TX
  • Oct. 18 - at Arkansas - Fayetteville, AR
  • Oct. 25 - at LSU - Baton Rouge, LA
  • Nov. 8 - at Missouri - Columbia, MO
  • Nov. 15 - vs. South Carolina - Bryan-College Station, TX
  • Nov. 22 - vs. Samford - Bryan-College Station, TX
  • Nov. 29 - at Texas - Austin, TX

Pretty favorable. Will be fun to see the path we take to 8-4.

3 home SEC games followed by 3 road SEC games is wild

No home games from October 11 to November 15

Only have to cross the Mississippi River once and it's less than 2 miles.

SEC schedules don't get much more favorable than that.

Jimbo's son will be home. Isn't he a kicker for his dad's alma mater, Samford?

I see another tough Aggie season, nothing new under the son.

7-5. I was right about 8-4 this year and I'll be right next year. I'm also allowing for them to go 8-4 and people to rub that in my face. 9-3 is a pipe dream but good luck to all of you sunshine pumpers.

Looks like a favorable schedule. We don't play Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, or Georgia. BAS seems prevalent here. We don't know how many possible difference makers Elko will possibly sign in the Portal. Surely, we can do better than 8 and 4 next year.

After the Auburn and tu game I'm all out of hopium. It will take at least until August when I hear about how we have a couple of guys really showing out in two a days and how our S&C program is really paying dividends that I'll start drinking the Kool aid that we can do better than 7-5 to 8-4.

There are several things I hate about our schedule.

1. It is very unbalanced. It's ridiculous how we will play 3 straight SEC home games against Auburn on 9/27, Mississippi State on 10/4, and Auburn on 10/11 before a stretch of 3 straight SEC road games at Arkansas on 10/18, LSU on 10/25, and Missouri on 11/8 in span of 4 weeks.

2. We will go for 5 weeks between home games against Auburn on 10/11 and South Carolina on 10/15. This will be the 3rd time in 8 years that we have gone for 5+ weeks between home games (5 weeks between the Kentucky and Ole Miss games in 2018 and 6 weeks between the Miami and Ole Miss games in 2022).

3. In 2021, 2023 and 2024, we had very balanced schedules that did not have a single stretch of back-to-back road games or more than 3 weeks between home games.

4. We are playing Samford instead of an SEC opponent in our final home game. Since 2015, we have played a cupcake opponent in our final home game in every odd year, except for 2019 when we played South Carolina in our final home game. We played Western Carolina in 2015, New Mexico in 2017 Prairie View A&M in 2021, and Abilene Christian in 2023 as our final home games.

The only good thing about our schedule is the timing of our 2 bye weeks.
1. We have our first bye week between our first road game at Notre Dame on 9/13 and our first SEC game against Auburn on 9/27. We will have home field and rest advantages over Auburn because Auburn will be coming off a tough road game at Oklahoma on 9/20

2. Our second bye week comes after back-to-back road games at Arkansas and LSU. Both Texas A&M and Missouri will have a bye week before playing each other in Columbia on 11/8.

With this schedule, I am predicting a floor of 7-5 (4-4 SEC) and a ceiling of 9-3 (6-2 SEC). The 5 road games at Notre Dame, Arkansas, Missouri, LSU, and Texas will make or break our season. Hopefully, we can go 7-0 at home, including 4-0 in SEC home games against Auburn, Mississippi State, Florida, and South Carolina and 2-3 in road games.

I think the South Carolina game is a great candidate for a night game.

The SEC schedule makers really suck at their job.

Every year there are several teams that have clumped up schedules where they have a bunch of home games together followed by a bunch of road games.

How hard is it to even things out?!?

The reason I wanted A&M to leave the Big12 and join the SEC is because I thought it would make every game a bowl game. By that I mean that every week we would play someone who I wanted to watch in a big matchup.

I was wrong, that home schedule absolutely sucks. Why would anyone want to pay $200 a game per seat for that bunch of awful games. There are exactly zero interesting or fun home games on that schedule.

The only interesting or fun home games will be our SEC home games against Auburn, Mississippi State, Florida, and South Carolina. That is the bulk of our SEC home slate over a 15-day span between 9/27 and 10/11. Then, we have 3 road games in a 22-day span between 10/18 and 11/8 before our final SEC home game against South Carolina on 11/15. We should win at least 3 of our 4 SEC home games. I agree that the rest of the home schedule sucks with 3 cupcake games as usual.

I am one of those fans who want 9 conference games and 1 nonconference Power 5 game for 10 games against Power 5 opponents. A 9-game conference schedule means an uneven number of home and away conference games, but that can be mitigated. In years we have 5 away conference games, we can get an extra home game against a Power 5 nonconference opponent. Likewise, in the years we have 5 home conference games, we can play a Power 5 nonconference opponent on the road or at a neutral site. Either way, I would like 5 home games against Power 5 teams every year, which would mean 2 cupcake games instead of 3 for season ticket holders.
