Texas A&M listed as a No. 2 seed in committee's 2025 Bracket Preview
We’re just over a month away from March Madness, and the Aggies are in the mix for their highest seed in program history.
Before the official selections are announced on Selection Sunday, March 16, the Division I Men’s Basketball Selection Committee released its in-season top-16 seeds on Saturday morning, and Texas A&M was listed as the No. 2 seed in the South Region.
Keep in mind that this isn’t the official bracket. Instead, it’s a look at the current top 16 teams since there’s a ton of basketball still left to be played.
As JBR Bracketology discussed earlier this week, this preview gives insight into what the committee values this season. After meeting on Tuesday morning in Indianapolis and periodically throughout the week, every game up until Friday, Feb. 14, was considered in their deliberation.

At this point in the season, the Selection Committee views Texas A&M’s wins, resume metrics and predictive metrics as worthy of a No. 2 seed and the No. 6 overall team in Saturday’s reveal.
A No. 2 seed would be the highest seed ever in A&M basketball history, beating the No. 3 seed earned by the 2007 and 2016 teams that made the Sweet 16.
Additionally, the Aggies have wins over Purdue and Texas Tech teams featured on the top four seed lines by the Selection Committee.
Texas A&M’s Body of Work
- 13-5 vs Quad 1 and Quad 2 (4th most wins in Division I)
- 7-5 vs Quad 1 (Tied for 5th most wins in Division I)

Complete Metrics Definition Guide
Since the inaugural bracket preview show in 2017, 94 of the 112 teams unveiled as top-four seeds remained a top-four seed on Selection Sunday. Only one No. 2 seed in the seven-year history of this bracket preview has fallen out of a top-four seed in the official bracket when Villanova fell from a No. 2 seed to No. 5 in 2021. Further, 75 percent of the Bracket Preview’s No. 2 seeds end up with the same seed or a better seed in the final field of 68.
Final Selection Sunday Seed for the No. 2 Seeds in the Preview Show
- Moved up to a No. 1 seed: 6
- Stayed at a No. 2 seed: 15
- Moved down to a No. 3 seed: 4
- Moved down to a No. 4 seed: 2
- Moved down to a No. 5 seed: 1
With seven games left in the SEC regular season (including one against Arkansas currently in progress), the Aggies have plenty of opportunities left to improve their resume and remain inside the top four seed lines.
The Maroon & White have the tenth hardest remaining schedule with games against Auburn, Florida and Tennessee, three of the top five overall teams in the 2025 Bracket Preview.
