Trisha Ford’s Aggies continue to climb.

In Week 4’s ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll, Texas A&M checks in as the No. 4 team in the country — the program’s highest ranking in 17 years when Jo Evans’ 2008 squad opened up at No. 3.

The Texas A&M Invitational proved successful for the home squad, going 5-1 and earning their 20th win of the year.

The Aggies took care of Texas State, Princeton and Idaho State, but the four-day tournament at Davis Diamond was highlighted by Sunday’s 7-6 win over then-No. 13 Texas Tech. The Red Raiders got the best of the Aggies on Saturday night, but A&M evened the score the following afternoon.

This marks the first time the Aggies have logged a 20-2 record in back-to-back seasons since 2016-17, when the 2017 team started 27-2 and the 2016 squad began 26-2.

Above the Aggies in last week’s poll, then-No. 4 UCLA dropped a pair of games to No. 5 LSU and unranked Arizona in 10 innings at the Judi Garman Classic. The Bruins now sit at No. 6.

The SEC flexed its muscle once again in this week’s poll as the Aggies are 13 SEC teams inside the top 25, along with No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Florida, No. 5 LSU, No. 8 Tennessee, No. 10 Arkansas (tie), No. 10 South Carolina (tie), No. 14 Georgia, No. 17 Auburn, No. 21 Alabama, No. 22 Mississippi State and No. 25 Ole Miss.

With three wins over top-15 opponents already in the books, A&M has a chance to bolster its resume and ranking this weekend.

The Aggies will open up conference play with No. 3 Florida, setting up a top-five series in Aggieland. The last time A&M softball was a part of a top-five contest was on February 16, 2008, when All-American Megan Gibson helped the No. 3 Aggies take down No. 1 Arizona.
