Wade Taylor IV's No. 4 jersey joins Acie Law in the Reed Arena rafters
No. 4 has joined No. 1.
On Tuesday, Texas A&M men’s basketball honored senior guard Wade Taylor IV by raising his jersey into the Reed Arena rafters.
While not officially “retired” due to university policy, Taylor’s No. 4 is now displayed alongside Acie Law IV’s No. 1 and across from Danielle Adams’ No. 23.
The honor was bestowed upon Taylor after No. 22 A&M’s 83-72 upset of No. 1 Auburn in Aggieland.
Taylor scored 16 points in the victory, 13 of which came in the second half.
A graduate student from Dallas and Lancaster High School, Taylor was the SEC’s Preseason Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference pick entering the 2023-2024 campaign. As a sophomore, he earned consensus All-SEC first-team honors and was a Stadium.com third-team All-American.
During his highly-decorated tenure in Aggieland, the Maroon & White have been to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments under head coach Buzz Williams, and the Aggies are a shoo-in for the Big Dance later this month.
In a couple of weeks, Taylor — along with teammates Hayden Hefner, Solomon Washington, Andersson Garcia, Henry Coleman III and Manny Obaseki — will join a list of select few A&M players to appear in March Madness on three separate occasions. Before this current run, A&M’s only other streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances came from 2006-2011.
After Tuesday’s win, Taylor is just nine points away from tying Bernard King for the program’s all-time scoring record. King was in attendance for Taylor’s final game at Reed Arena on Tuesday night.
Taylor’s next opportunity to accomplish history comes Saturday against LSU in Baton Rouge.
