Outfielder Jace LaViolette earns SEC co-Player of the Week honors
The Aggies are on fire, and so is Lord Tubbington.
On Monday, Texas A&M outfielder Jace LaViolette was named the Southeastern Conference’s co-Player of the Week following his performance in the Maroon & White’s series victory at then-No. 2 Arkansas.
LaViolette shares the honors with Texas catcher/infielder Kimble Schuessler, and the Aggies will meet the Longhorns this weekend in Austin.
However, that’s the week ahead.
The week prior proved to be extremely impressive for No. 17.
In a 3-1 week for the Ags, LaViolette launched five home runs, scored 10 runs and drove in 11. Homering in all four games, he slashed .412/.524/1.294. Additionally, he had a multi-hit performance in three of the four contests and drove in multiple runs in each outing this week.
LaViolette’s most impressive performance was in Friday night’s series finale in Fayetteville.
He kick-started the offense with a solo shot in the first inning. With the score tied 1-1 in the fifth, he crushed an opposite-field two-run bomb to left center that put A&M up for good in what ended as a 9-2 victory.
Any detractors who have said this junior season is not as impressive as his first two campaigns in Aggieland would be wise to stop speaking after he reminded everyone of his greatness this weekend.
Overall, the 6-foot-6, 230-pound future first-rounder is slashing .307 (currently a career high)/.468 (currently a career high)/.693 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs, leading the club in both categories.
No stranger to conference recognition, this is the third weekly honor for the All-SEC first-teamer. In 2023, he garnered a Freshman of the Week nod on April 10 before capturing the Player of the Week award on May 22.
Additionally, he becomes the second Aggie in as many weeks to be recognized as the league’s Player of the Week, joining Blake Binderup. Overall, it is the third SEC weekly honor to be bestowed upon an Aggie this season, along with Terrence Kiel II’s Freshman of the Week shout following Opening Weekend.
