Heisman Hopefuls: Top names hold, race solidifies

Last year Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron was considered merely a “game manager.”
Now, he’s managed to work his way into the Heisman Trophy race mainly because he just doesn’t lose. In fact, he’s 20-1 as Alabama’s starting quarterback.
McCarron doesn’t direct a pass-oriented offense and therefore doesn’t accumulate gaudy statistics. He actually hasn’t thrown more than 30 passes in a game this season.
