Texas transfer forward Jamie Vinson commits to Texas A&M basketball
Former Texas forward Jamie Vinson has announced his commitment to Texas A&M.
At 6-foot-11 and 225 pounds, Vinson appeared in nine games for the Longhorns as a true freshman last season. He averaged 2.2 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.3 blocks while shooting 75 percent from the field, 100 percent from 3-point range and 50 percent at the free throw line.
That 100 percent from behind the arc can be misleading, as he only took one career triple and made it, but the Austin native can stretch the floor like he did in high school for Oak Hill Academy. A major key for the “Bucky Ball” system is having shooters at every position on the floor, and Vinson will have the opportunity to showcase the perimeter shooting he developed in high school.

Vinson was a three-star recruit in the class of 2024 and ranked as the No. 11 overall prospect in Texas.
The Aggies needed size and young pieces to build around, and Vinson fits that mold perfectly. He’ll get more opportunity playing under Bucky McMillan than he had in Austin, and his high upside will make him one of the more intriguing depth pieces in the frontcourt alongside Zach Clemence and Chris McDermott.
Now McMillan’s ninth player on this 2025-2026 roster, the physical rim protector is a welcomed addition in College Station as the Aggies continue to add players via the transfer portal.
Vinson arrives in Aggieland with three years of eligibility left.
