Elijah Robinson expected to reunite with Elko and rejoin A&M's staff
After two years at Syracuse, Elijah Robinson is expected to rejoin Texas A&M’s coaching staff under head man Mike Elko.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports was first to report the news, which was confirmed by TexAgs’ co-owner and executive editor Billy Liucci on X.
Robinson and Elko worked together while the latter was A&M’s defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021.
During his previous stint in Aggieland, Robinson was A&M’s defensive line coach under Jimbo Fisher from 2018 through the 2023 season, having been elevated to co-defensive coordinator in 2023.
Additionally, he served as A&M’s interim head coach for the final three games of 2023, including the 2023 TaxAct Texas Bowl, following Fisher’s ouster. The Aggies were 1-2 under Robinson’s watch, with the lone victory coming over Abilene Christian.
On Dec. 3, 2023, Robinson accepted the defensive coordinator position at Syracuse under head coach Fran Brown.
However, Robinson’s Orange defense ranked 78th nationally in yards allowed per game (377.5) in 2024 before falling to 125th this season (427.7).
Earlier this month, Brown demoted Robinson to co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.
A native of Camden, New Jersey, Robinson began his coaching career at his alma mater, Penn State, as a graduate assistant in 2009. He stayed on Joe Paterno's staff until joining Matt Rhule at Temple to coach the defensive line in 2015.
When Rhule left Philadelphia for Baylor in 2017, Robinson went to Waco for a one-year stint to coach defensive linemen.
Fisher brought Robinson to Aggieland in 2018. Along with the late Terry Price, Robinson has coached many A&M standouts such as Justin Madubuike, DeMarvin Leal, Micheal Clemons, Bobby Brown, Jayden Peevy, McKinnley Jackson, Shemar Turner and many more.
Robinson has also established himself as an ace recruiter, assisting the Aggies in signing the highest-rated class of all time in 2022.
An official title for Robinson upon his return to Aggieland has yet to be announced.
