Cashius Howell joins exclusive list as a unanimous All-American
Unanimous.
It doesn’t happen often, but it seems everyone agrees on this:
Cashius Howell is an All-American.
With the FWAA’s announcement on Thursday, the Texas A&M defensive end officially became a unanimous All-American, joining an extremely exclusive list.
According to Texas A&M’s records, Howell is the ninth unanimous All-American in program history, though Luke Joeckel (2012) and Myles Garrett (2016) appear to be mistakenly omitted from that list.
Whether he is the ninth or 11th, Howell’s achievement is truly historic as he has been a first-team honoree from each of the following: AFCA, Associated Press, Walter Camp, Sporting News and FWAA.
The redshirt senior from Kansas City was also recognized as a first-team All-SEC selection in addition to being the league’s Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Southeastern Conference with 11.5 sacks and tying for fourth with 14.0 tackles for loss. His sack total is the most by an Aggie since Myles Garrett’s 11.5 in 2014...a name that is now chasing a record of a different kind.
When it comes to other national accolades, Howell was a finalist for the Lombardi Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.
So the list of unanimous All-American Aggies now features 11 names:
- 1940 - John Kimbrough - FB
- 1957 - John David Crow - HB
- 1975 - Ed Simonini - LB
- 1976 - Robert Jackson - LB
- 1992 - Marcus Buckley - LB
- 1998 - Dat Nguyen - LB
- 2012 - Luke Joeckel - OT*
- 2013 - Jake Matthews - OT
