Texas A&M's Bucky McMillan set to receive raise, contract extension

Texas A&M’s Bucky McMillan is set to receive an increase in salary and an extension after his impressive first season in Aggieland.

TexAgs’ Billy Liucci was the first to report that McMillan and A&M were finalizing a new contract.

McMillan’s original contract was set to expire in 2030. This new one extends him to 2032. More details on McMillan’s salary are still to come.

One year ago, Buzz Williams’ departure for Maryland left this program with just one player in Chris McDermott, and despite being the last Power Five head coach hired, McMillan rallied the troops to put together a competitive roster in Year 1.

His team won 22 games, which is the second most by a first-year head coach in A&M history. They were picked to finish 13th in the SEC in the preseason but went 11-7 and finished in a tie for fourth place, and those 11 conference wins were the most by a first-year head coach at A&M since joining a Power Five conference.

Most importantly, they made the NCAA Tournament despite starting 2026 with less than 35 percent odds to do so, and won a Round of 64 game against No. 7 St. Mary’s, 63-50.

Between the overachievement on the court, a re-energized recruiting fervor, and McMillan fully embracing the culture at A&M, the future of the Aggie basketball program is brighter than it’s been in a long time, which is why Trev Alberts and the Board of Regents moved quickly to reward and extend the man responsible.

As my dad used to say… just because one has a lot of money doesn't mean they are very smart. Just look at all the Aggies.

He warned his granddaughter, who had full ride engineering scholarships to both A&M and tu, if you go to the 40 acres don't become so arrogant that we can't stand to be around you, and don't go to Aggieland and lose your common sense so that we make fun of you.

The notion because coaches are well-compensated they either are or are not motivated is mainly envy.
