Missouri's RPI was 44, A&M's was 82, as of November 16.

It sounds like A&M never had a chance to get in if they go by the RPI. Where can one see the RPI ranks ??

Their RPI left out our last 4 games (we were 3-1). I don't know who's doing their RPI, but it had Baylor ranked over us. We beat Baylor twice 3-0 and 3-0. Their conference record was 6-14 versus 10-10 for us. How in the HE11 could their RPI be better than ours?? Bogus.

Does our weak preseason come back to haunt us? You have to remember what teams the Aggies started out the season with. Did Baylor have a tougher pre conference schedule? Just curious - does the athletic dept schedule, or does the coaching staff for each sport? It may have looked like a good idea to start out weak, and build a good overall record, but strength of the entire season schedule had to be a consideration of the selection committee. Apparently it did if Missouri and Iowa State are both moving on, and the Ags are done.

It also left out Baylor's last 4 games - they were 6-10 in conference to our 7-9 at the time. They likely fell below us in the final RPI.

Baylor actually beat someone in the RPI Top 50 in nonconference play (Mississippi), and played 6 teams in the top 100. A&M didn't even play ANYONE in the top 100 (Washington State came in at 101), including 5 with an RPI over 230.

Yes, I think the 11-0 record against non-conference cupcakes was the ultimate downfall and the committee saw that the 82nd RPI was enough to deny A&M entry. Additionally, Iowa State upsetting OU in the last match sealed the deal.

The sad thing is that it is now very obvious that the program needs a new coaching staff. The team was actually make strides and improving during the tougher conference schedule. Just think how much better the team could have been if that improvement would have started against tougher competition, even if you go 6-5 or 7-4.

The opponents we played were 309, 249, 279, 133, 101, 295, 142, 273, 164, 232, and 208 in the RPI. That's horrible. The program deserves better decision making than that.
"Building Champions" will never be done when you invite the 309th rated team in the nation to play you at home.

our season in vb is over, I bet he does it right after he's over with hiring Sherman as our football HC which could be this week

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just like BB said in his press conference announcing Mike Sherman as the new football coach, I am sure BB keeps track of VB coaches and has evaluated many. I would be surprised if a new coach would be chosen before the NCAA tournament is complete. I would think that the pool of candidates that he would consider would include many who are currently in post season.

We have an improving team that is much better than last year. we were just on the bubble this year and didnt quite make the NCAA. We had a good season. From last year when you have a team of mostly freshmen, it takes time for everyone to start working together. Laurie did a good job of working with them and look how much better we did this year. Sometimes teams have to rebuild. it happens.

Our coaching staff is fine. The past 2 years lots of teams had an experience advantage over us. Wait till next year and now we have the advantage for 2 years.

Ask any of the girls. They are not going to say it was a coaching problem that caused a few losses this year.

While your optimism is refreshing TAMUmpower, this type of complacency will ultimately result in the Corbelli’s dismissal (something I definitely do not want to see). Our coaching staff is not fine…elements of this staff are actually awful. John and Laurie need to hire a tough, defensive minded assistant coach A.S.A.P. or we’re going to continue to struggle.

“Ask any of the girls”. Keep in mind, these are 18-23 year old girls your wanting us to ask. It has been my experience that few College, & even Olympic level athletes, really have a clue why they are (or are not) successful. Typically, they just blindly do whatever their coach tells them to under the assumption the coach actually knows what they’re doing.

Improving…yes. Reaching our maximum potential…not even close! The scary thing is that most of the crucial conference opponents that we face next year are equally young.

“Sometimes teams have to rebuild”. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve been hearing this excuse since Melissa Munsch graduated.

one of you guys in the know, please tell me how we are doing in regard to recuiting? I love to go to the games when I'm in town, but I'm a Vball novice. It seems to me that our coach is probably a good game coach, but if she is losing the recuiting war, then we are in trouble. Based on the talent I saw on the tu team, we are probably falling behind

How long do you want to ignore this user?
We are dreadfully behind in recruiting. What we have in recruits for next year simply keeps the cycle going. They are good players, but not the level that needs to be on our roster if we plan on competing against t.u. or Nebraska...not even close. The last 5-6 years of poor recruiting has placed this program in a level of mediocrity that cannot be changed without a new staff.

The program is nowhere close to "Building Champions" and won't be any closer until a new administration is in place.

If Stephanie Cadavid becomes the next libero, she will be the fourth walk-on starting libero at A&M. Our defense has been miserable, and if we do not begin to recruit good defensive specialists we will just fall further and further behind.

This "young team" excuse is weak.

Accurate. Would you want your talented daughter jumping on LC's wagon, which has been skidding off the road the past several years and now finds itself overturned in the ditch?

Not making the NCAA tourney will ease the change process for BB.

To be brutally frank, I don't think Byrne will be making a change this year. He doesn't wait when he's canning a coach (think Fran, Johnson, Watkins, Gillom, etc.) Since nothing's happened yet, I'm guessing he'll give LC at least another year.
OlsenBum
How long do you want to ignore this user?
bqce - I believe your assessment is accurate. If he had any intention to make a change, we would have seen it by now. As I said before, I believe she can coach as well as anyone. But apparently she has lost her recruiting foothold. If that's the case, one more year won't help and will only delay improvement. I wish her well and hope she proves us wrong. I'd gladly eat crow.

This seems to be a very likely scenario.

Be patient, not only in waiting for the announcement, but during the rebuilding period as well. Seven of the twelve roster players are Sophs who have yet to break .500 in conference play. Ominously, there are zero fish. There has been good effort on the court. However, with only a couple of exceptions, the high-level competitive talent cupboard is bare.

The recent history of failures in recruiting and developing the available talent have set the program back a long way. Whoever takes over will have a very steep hill to climb.

The early season wins against non-competitive teams were largely meaningless, in spite of the hype that gushed from the Athletic Department. The absence of a winning percentage in B12 play just sealed the deal regarding NCAA tournament selection.

It's a shame that our players will again have to pay admission to appreciate the NCAA tourney experience. Things will get better.

BB has already warned in previous post-season evaluations that competing for the Big 12 championship is paramount in keeping their jobs. Obviously, that is not happening and won't happen with the current talent and staff.

I think you'll hear an announcement at the appropriate time when the appropriate coach can be contacted and becomes available.

Johnson was fired before the NCAA tourney and before he had a coach ready to take his place. Same with Watkins. I don't rule out a coaching change this year, but Byrne has precedent for firing coaches right after their regular season is done. I think LC has at least another year here.
