I watched the dual meet in Austin today. I don't know what the final score was but there was no doubt the Ags won. I'm fairly certain several swims were exhibitioned to keep the score reasonably close.

It was nice to see the Ags race in person. Just a couple of observations from the meet:

- Kristen Heiss has effortless speed in backstroke and freestyle. Fastest freestyle turns I've seen from a woman.
- Julia Wilkinson is a great all around swimmer. In her IM she barely lost any ground to Texas' best breaststroker
- Triin has amazing easy speed in her 50 free. I thought her race wasn't that fast but she swam a 22.8 and it didn't look like she was trying.
- Texas Susan Escobar had her way with us in the 1000 and the 500. She almost pulled out a win in the 200 fly on the last 25.
- With the exception of the 200 fly, our girls finished their races very well. Excellent race strategy and pacing.
- Texas breaststroker (Soelter?) was good - stayed with Alia in both the 100 and the 200.
- Just about as many A&M fans in the stands at Texas fans.

Great win overall girls!

Women’s Swimming & Diving Tops Texas in State Farm Lone Star Showdown

http://www.aggieathletics.com/pressRelease.php?SID=WSW&PRID=13876

The win marked the first by an Aggie swimming & diving team in the Longhorns’ home pool in school history. It also gives Texas A&M a 4.5 to 2 lead over Texas in the Lone Star Showdown, its biggest lead since the creation of the competition four years ago.

I was there also...with the exception of Escobar, the Ags were in a class by themselves...it's amazing to see how far this program has come in the last 3-4 years...here's to it staying there for a long, long time

I'm afraid the men's meet coming up will be just the opposite. Our guys didn't swim well against SMU. They just tired?

It seems that under Holmes not as much emphasis has been put on the dual meet season while a very large amount of emphasis is placed on Big 12's and NCAA's (see Duran beating Ricky Berens in the 200 fly among others)...I would expect great performances out of Duran, Jacobo and several others in a few weeks in Austin...the freestyle sprinters have made monumental time drops over a short period of time going from the dual meet season to conference under Jay's regime and I see no reason why that wouldn't happen again this year

As far as the SMU meet goes, judging from the pic on the front of the men's web page, SMU suited up for the meet while the Ags did not, meaning that dual meet must have meant a lot more to SMU than it did to A&M

The Aggie men have swam an absolutely brutal dual meet schedule this year as well...all eight of their opponents are or have been ranked in the top 25 this year

Unfortunately that is what the UT men are gonna probably do this weekend when they swim here at A&M (exhibition many swims/relays so the score isn't too brutal). The UT men's team is gonna be stacked for years to come with Jimmy Feigen and Neil Caskey headed that way as well as all the other outstanding swimmers that are there!

NCAA's are going to be pretty exciting next year at the Rec Center with UT being a top top team and the A&M women's team being a top team! Go swimming!

Our current junior class (women's) will be seniors next year for the NCAAs. After that we lose Heiss, Wilkinson, etc. Hopefully Bultman has some future stars queued up.

Texas' women have a superb incoming class next fall (Kathleen Hersey in particular) so Texas will be improving rapidly. Hersey has gone 1:56 in 200 IM already and is the nationals champion in 200 fly. We will still be deeper than Texas, but we won't win 12 of 14 events when Hersey and her new teammates show up on campus.
