The average student going to LSU today is not the average student from 20 years ago. I think they have raised the bar tremenously and it will continue to get better. BUT if you are also having a great football team that is national televised very week... you are a sports school.
If over the last 20 years, the students got smarter and the football team was the team of the late 80s, we would be known for academics. It just happens we have been blessed in academics AND sports and one is more public than the other.
