anyone know the all time low round at a NCAA championship tourney?

We have an excellent shot at 12th and maybe even 11th at the end of play today.

Googled Nick and found out that he had a 2nd place finish at this year's Pac 10 championship that was helped out by an unusual par:

The leaders are going off first in the morning. The Aggies tee off beginning at 8:07. It looks like they're trying to beat the storms. The forecast is for 20 to 30 mph winds and strong thunderstorms in the afternoon. This is a links style course and when the wind blows it's a miserable place to be.

We're playing the back 9 first. Would much rather start off on the front in the morning.

If it really is going to get stormy later today, it sounds like a huge advantage for the teams with morning tee times. I bet we see no more than 1 or 2 teams with afternoon tee times make the cut.

I'd be willing to guess the leader will be at around +18 at the end of the day. So I think 278 (-10) puts us in the lead, 281 puts us in the final group, anything below par gives us an outside chance to win.

If we were to shoot -10, I think Bronson has to be the spark plug. He's gotta step up and post a 67. Andrea and Nacho, who seem like they're playing steady, need to get in 2-3 under. And Bobby or Matt has to grind out a par round. Not very likely, but to win a championship from the position we are in, we gotta do something special.

Wow! The field is having no trouble with the course this morning. Seven teams under par.

Train wreck ending the first 9. Need to stop the bleeding fast. Hopefully they can do it on the "easier" front side. It would blow if they missed the cut now. Fairways and greens men.

The back is playing MUCH harder than the front today - teams starting on the back are under par to 3-4 over; teams on the back are 8-10 over. I think +40 gets us to tomorrow and the cut may be as high as +42.

I am just not sure how marketable this tourney is like this. I'd think the finals would be great to televise (Golf Channel isn't really busy on Saturday), but who wants to see a bunch of kids WAY over par. I'd like to see the course set so the cut is about 10 over; that'll leave most of the finals participants under par.

CapCity - Based on the coach's comment about the rough, sounds a like lot a US Open course. I'm not sure they play on anything this tough, including the regionals, during the year.

Also, I don't know about your cut number. It appears there are 9 teams with the lowest scores that have completed the bulk of their rounds. It's going to be nip and tuck for the Ags to make the cut. Gotta make some birdies on the front, especially the par 5's, and avoid bogeys or worse. The backside ate them for breakfast today.

And PJ, I believe you're thinking of IU in Bloomington. Purdue is in West Lafayette which is mid-way between Indy and Chicago (much closer to that weather pattern).

Imagine the winners of this event....yea we are the National Champs and we shot +25 as a team to win!

Winds gusting to 30 mph now. USUALLY the main reason this course is difficult is because of the wind. I hope the Aggies can hold on. The rough there is always bad with lots of pampas grass etc. They didn't need to make it any worse!
