Its amazing what mandatory, err, state sponsored programs and cheating can do for a country. The funny thing is, even with all that, we are still going to win the overall medal count.

We have tied our Athens total at 102

We'll reach 110 or more with guaranteed medals in Men's bball, vball, and waterpolo tomorrow.

RXO- that is true (they total about 165 right now) but you have to consider also the advantage of being separate countries- means the ability to have more participants.

Example: If you chopped the U.S. into six different countries, think how many chances we'd have.

We'd have six relay teams, 20 different people in the 100 meter dash, etc.. etc.. etc..

a lot of great athletes don't make it past the olympic trials.

think how many great softball, volleyball, basketball, baseball, teams we'd have- not to mention swimmers, gymnasts, BMX,....

You are right I hadn't thought about that, I guess in adding all the former republics total golds would be more representative to were they are, and that would still be very good

Just think what would have happened if T&F performed to expectations (and potential).

Hawaii, with a poulation of 1 1/4 million sent 18 athletes to the Olympics and 12 won medals.
