I agree...and nowhere in my post did I imply that I thought the above premise applied to our program. I was simply stating my opinion that the current state of our program (which we agree is not ideal) would not deter a prospective coach from coming to A&M.

The first game loss was just frustrating as all get out, same with game 3, but you gotta give the girls credit, they kept at it and pulled out the W.


And am I the only sick s.o.b. that enjoys giving the OU coach pure hell? Man that guy annoys me.

...so Black was playing Libero today. I like having her on the court, but I liked her better in her more familiar OH role. I think they should let her rotate up to front row for a change. It seemed like they were gunning the ball right at her for awhile and getting some points before she got in a groove.

the girls gutted it out. they looked really good some of the time and still a little timid some of the time. i didn't think that the officials had their minds on the court a couple of times. seemed to be somewhere else a little bit. the service errors added up for both teams today.

I really liked seeing Jenny Banse as Libero in game 1. I understand why coach made the switch moving Black to libero and banse back to hitter because Black wasn't having much success hitting, but i would liked to have seen Black get another game to get in the groove. Banse didn't really give a lot of kills anyway and she was all over the place digging the ball (something like 6 kills and 24 digs if i remember correctly). Glad to see the girls get the win, but I think there were also some glaring problems (esp. closing out sets) that need to be addressed.

As far as OU goes, their freshman setter looked absolutely amazing and she is going to be quite a force to reckon with in the coming years. If the coach can bring in some good hitters they should have a very good team the next few years.

I do question how much playing time that Black got, especially early in the match. She really struggled in the first couple of sets. When its that close I would like to have a more consistant player in.

The girls did good. But we seem to have some sort of strange mental block on finishing. In all honesty, we probably could have, and I may go so far as to say should have swept OU in 3. Game 1 was ours, and I'm still trying to comprehend what happened there. And Lardbutt the horrible got a yellow card again. Seriously, who would wanna play for an idiot like that?

It was incredibly sloppy play from both teams! I am pumped we pulled this game off, but we will never be competitive if we play like we did in some of those sets. We are still a middle tier program that in reality should be able to hang with NU and t.u....I mean look at the talent on our roster. I am not trying to rain on any parade, and I will always support our ladies, but I will still stick to my guns for a new coaching staff.

If we can fire RC, we can certainly fire the Volleyball coaches. I'm a little shocked Bill hadn't done it yet. Every other program that was sucking had coaching changes.

Not firing the football coach affects revenue.

Not firing the volleyball coach doesn't, and it's probably better to just not renew the contract if performance is still lagging at the end of the term.

I express no opinion on whether she should be fired or whether her contract should not be renewed, but I definately would like to see us as a national power in volleyball.

CU lost to KSU 15-25, 16-25, 19-25. We may get a better picture of where we stand after this match. It will clear up who we should think we could compete against and who we can't (which at this point certainly is NOT against the top 3-4 in the conference).

To be honest, I think this is kind of a down year for the Big 12. Nebraska and Texas are way ahead of everyone else, and then K-State is also kind of at their own level below the top but above most everyone else I think. I really thought K-State should be very good this year, but I actually wasn't as impressed by them last night as I thought i should have been. They returned almost everyone except their setter and libero from last year and they were much better last year (although they did lose one heck of a libero in Lastra).
After the top three, its looking like Baylor and Iowa State may be poised to make a run at the next spot. Baylor is really moving up in the volleyball ranks, as they used to be a perennial bottom third finisher. They have a very good setter who I believe is leading the conference in assists per game thus far in the season and a very good blocking middle in Anna Breyfogle. It seems some of their upperclassmen are really coming together and they could have a very good season in the Big 12 this year.
Iowa State also put up a good fight with Texas, and as usual is playing very scrappy defense. After that, it seems like we have A&M, Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, and OU fighting for the next few spots and will likely end up with very similar records and Tech will once again carry the bottom of the conference banner.

So would it be logical to say that with the Big 12 being down (in your opinion) that A&M would then have a better shot at improvement? Then if the record is the same as last year, in actuality, the season would be considered even more of a letdown than the last two. That's almost incomprehensible considering how bad last year was.

It would absolutely be more of a letdown, especially since most of our starters are now juniors and seniors. The core group of these players have been playing together since they were freshman (Batis, Ammerman, Banse, Bryant). Volleyball is definitely a sport where time playing together as a unit plays an integral part in success. We had to struggle through two years of these girls playing as underclassmen, but all that experience should be paying off at this point and making them a better team.

Most teams that have a dedicated facility have one like G. Rollie White. GRW is awesome.

That was closer than I thought it was going to be. It looks like Schevi had some huge foot brace on so who knows how long it will be before she is playing again. Hopefully we keep adjusting in the meantime, we did have a few careless errors but overall it seemed like our intensity was good. Mary was gettin pretty amped.

I love when Wang tried to do the "vball roll" after a dig and ended up smashing her face into ground.

I love how Mary was getting pumped after every play for a while, and by the middle of the 5th set, she was just smiling like it was no big deal.

The Aggie Volleyball team returns home Wednesday, Oct. 15 for volleyball's first edition of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown against No. 3 Texas. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. It will be "Break the Record Night” at the Holler House, as fans are challenged to come to the match and break the G. Rollie White attendance record of 3,778 set against the Longhorns on Oct. 24, 2003.



Fans with a ticket from the Kansas State football game will be admitted for $2, and members of Texas A&M affiliated Greek organizations wearing their letters will get in free.



Tickets can be purchased by calling 888-99-AGGIE or going online at 12thManFoundation.com. Tickets also will be available at the entrance to G. Rollie White beginning one hour before the game. General admission tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students/youth. Reserved seats are $9 each.

I know we need at least a .500 overall record to be eligible for the ncaas and it's gonna be tough to keep that with the rest of our conf schedule. It's also kind of a down year for the big 12 so only four or five teams will likely get in and texas, Nebraska and k state are locks so that's one or two spots for the rest of us. Were gonna need a really strong showing in the rest of conference play to make a case.

our out of conference schedule was MUCH stronger than last year. we do need to finish a little above .500 in conference with one win over a non-bottom feeder. can't afford to lose both matches to the bottom feeders.
