Just saw it on espn. Not sure what to think yet. Maybe he should stay out and keep his superman reputation, but then again, you only live once.

must have some sweet new drugs.

He's only riding a select few races. I wonder if he'll have the form to compete at a high level. He shouldn't do it. If he's clean (he's posting his drug tests online) and gets hammered his reputation as a doper will go into orbit.

Doesn't mean he's not making a comeback, but apparently there were some rumors flying around that were not true...

quote:
Lance Armstrong's reported comeback won't take place with the Astana cycling team.

"He is no part of our team," Astana team press officer Philippe Maertens told The Associated Press in an e-mail. "Team Astana has no plans with him."

The cycling journal VeloNews, citing anonymous sources, reported on its Web site Monday that the 36-year-old seven-time Tour de France champion would compete in the Tour and four other road races with Astana in 2009.

But Astana team director Johan Bruyneel, who was with Armstrong for all seven Tour wins from 1999-2005, told cyclingnews.com that he was unaware of any Armstrong comeback.

"I don't know where the rumors come from," the Web site quoted him as saying.

I prefer the comeback story of a real champion:

http://www.kristinarmstrong.net/

http://www.glamour.com/sex-love-life/2006/07/kristin-armstrong?currentPage=1

..And I find it fittingly ironic that one of the top female cyclists in the world is named Kristin Armstrong. Every day of lance's retirement, he has to be reminded of the cycling exploits of KRISTIN ARMSTRONG. Karma, payback, I don't know...but interesting to say the least.

I doubt Lance cares one way or the other that a female cyclist shares a name w/ is ex-wife.

His ex does nothing but lament about her days being single when she says she was more opinionate and outgoing. Well thats called life. When you get married and have kids you lose a little of yourself because you give up your time and your wants for your kids. Happens to everybody.

She sounds like a bitter narcissist.

The only issue I have is the reason I have seen listed. I have no doubt he is concerned about cancer awareness but I think awareness is pretty high already.

I suspect his main motivation is he misses the competition and excitement (and maybe the endorsement money) and wish he would mention those.

He's obsessed with proving that he didn't use performance enhancing drugs.

It is really about two things - ego and money. Cancer awareness gets to hitch a ride.

Lance spends money like it's someone else's. He makes lots of money now but Nike, Oakley, etc. won't keep paying him the big bucks if he isn't in the public's eye for their product lines. So Lance is saying once again that he is an elite bike racer. His story is interesting but Nike won't keep paying him huge bucks just because of his cancer fight.

And of course Lance wants to prove he can compete without drugs. He wants to thumb his nose at the TDF establishment - with even more arrogance.

Spoken like a man who's walked out on children before.

If you make a woman's life smaller and smaller, it shouldn't surprise you that she becomes uninteresting.

I beg your pardon. That's a pretty low thing to say to someone that wasn't directing anything at all to you.

I'll have you know that I have a wife and and a beautiful daughter that my world revolves around. I've been on deployment for 13 months and can't wait to see them in November.

I was only talking about the way Kristin Armstrong came across in the magazine article
I wasn't making any insinuations about you at all, but the way you responded I will now.

You speak like someone who has probably been hurt by having their husband leave them. He probably left because you are a frigid ***** that doesn't know how to show true affection or please him sexually. You are probably also not very attractive and out of shape. You don't have much in your life outside your work. Your friends are uninteresting, and your life is quite boring. You are empty inside and void of any real fulfillment. You cry yourself to sleep.

Ok, now we've both made insinuations. Good Day.

bingo. lance is a true narcissist. now that he's been out of the spotlight, he's dying to get back in it when he had people fawning all over him. he's using the cancer awareness as a reason, but it's more for his own ego. i've heard from several people who have met him that he is one of the most arrogant ass holes they've ever met.

exactly Jen....he's absolutely using Livestrong (cancer awareness) as a front for his ego strokes

I have never thought highly of the guy....and he is as narcissistic as possible. That is not admirable to me at all.

I agree with Charlie Mike on how she strikes me from that article. For one, she quit going to Sunday Mass because she had a toddler and infant twins. A) she should have made this priority one with her husband and discussed religion if it was really important and B) I'm guessing she and Lance had the financial resources to afford a nanny for two hours on Sunday

No, I think she was a star-struck youngster who was really not all that put-together character wise when she was 24. She saw the brass ring of marrying a famous millionaire and probably had no real concept of the importance of marriage and determining if this man and her were really a fit for a lifelong commitment.

Now she more or less criticizes the institution rather than her own judgment.

The book to read about Lance is Lance Armstrong's War. An "embedded" writer wrote the book.

It has great cycling stuff of course, but one of the telling parts of it is how it portrays Lance as fiercely competitive, angry, and yes - arrogant.
