Good solid win for the Aggies. Should be a good test against the Horns.

It's always an uphill battle when you lose the doubles point. All three matches were very competitive.

Lost 4-2. Austin and Alexey win for the Aggies. Colin loses a 2nd set tie breaker after being up 4-0 in the 2nd to close it out. Marcus just forced a 3rd set in the match that didn't finish.

In my mind, Austin K is one of the toughest outs as there is in college tennis this season. He is especially tough when competing aganist Texas. Ed Corrie is a very good player. They have split the last 4 matches in dual match play. Just seems they trade stretches of being hot. I enjoy the matchup.

I would like to know the overall record between Dimitar Kutrovsky and Connor Pollock. These guys just battle each other hard. I bet it is close to even over three years.

Girls are in a dogfight with Texas, tied 2-2, Elze down in the third, Christi just split at 3, Sheri up a set and 4-3 in the second. Come on ladies!

Ladies drop the match 2-4.

Tough to watch both teams lose close ones to the sips. One point here, one point there changes it all, but that is college tennis.

The girls are so close to breaking through. They're about 1 match away from clicking and being really good.

Some of those matches were so close, and rightfully should've been Aggie victories. With so many new players, I think it's just taken them time to gel as a team. Come tourny time, if they can click at the right moment, then look out.

I'd like to see them flip flop our 1's and 2's doubles. We're having trouble winning either one, but with the relative success of our 3's, they need to figure something out to get a win out of those other 2 lines.

Breaking through to what? Texas is ranked 32 and we're ranked 35. The womens team isn't remotely close to a top 20 team much less an elite team.

Now on to the NCAA tournament. I now believe there will be three teams from the Big 12 that will host first and second rounds.

livermore are you after Kleinecke's job or what? I mean, I don't think the guy deserves coach of the year or anything but here you are after every loss chiming in with the same old tired out "he's a high school coach" routine.

The guy is not championship material but the bottom line is that he is one of the best 30-40 coaches in women's tennis and Byrne has bigger fish to fry than to start getting nitpicky about women's tennis. As far as coaches on campus go, he's about middle of the pack and I don't think heads are going to roll unless he stops making the NCAA tournament, which would be virtually impossible since A&M basically recruits for itself and will always bring him some decent American recruits.

I'm not saying that I disagree with you but dude - enough. If you follow the team closely enough to care about having him canned so much, what about you come up with something original. Anything new - just not the same complaint for the 1,000th time that is only going to be read by the dozen of us that read the Other board regularly anyway.

P.s. - "No offense" is not a magic amulet that protects you from being viewed as an a-hole for criticizing someone.

No offense but I'm tired of your Whiny Kleiny posts...see, it doesn't work.

yep, 24 years at A&M, 2002 ITA Coach of the Year, 4 time conference coach of the year, 2 big 12 championships. He definitely does not belong in the college ranks.

Harry hit it right on the head, until Womens Tennis is "bad" and does not make NCAA's, has a losing record, doesnt compete at all, Bobby is not going anywhere. Maybe his recruiting is not the best in the conference, and the team loses some matches they shouldnt, but Womens Tennis is not football. He runs a clean program, is a great guy, and wins. He isnt going anywhere soon

Let's not get too carried away on how great Coach K's accomplishments are.Other than the obnoxious way he presented his point, JL's observation is not without merit. Harry Dunne's analysis is right on target - for better or for worse Coach K isn't going anywhere. If this were men's tennis, I'd have a problem with that but I just don't care that much about the women's side. It is what it is.

No offense harry you're an idiot....I am glad you accept less than stellar results from women's tennis and your only defense is its just womens tennis....The motto is Builiding Champions so continue defending Coach K.....you're doing a great job...

Oh and bigfoot your opinion doesn't count in this matter I know how close you're to the womens team...

You dont know crap about me, and I am not sure why you think you do...

Your knowledge of tennis is little or none anyways, not sure why I get in a debate with a guy that has one point, and it doesnt make sense half the time.
Harry Dunne

No offense taken. I always consider the source of the insult before getting offended.

I know you're not the brightest guy so I'll try again: I'm not sticking up for him, I'm just making a point, and that point is that you don't worry about putting a band aid on your pinkie when your jugular is gushing.

Football is the lifeblood of our athletic department and right now it is doin pretty poorly. They are cold-calling season ticket holders because so many of them are not renewing (a combination of the crappy economy and our crappy performance). Women's tennis is and always will be at the bottom of the totem pole and Byrne is not going to worry about it unless the results are below average. Lucky for Kleinecke, he is able to keep the results average or better.

A coaching search is expensive and most of all it is time-consuming. As we saw with the mens search, no matter how highly WE regard A&M, it is not exactly a blue-chip coaching destination. It is very good, yes, but we would have to roll the dice on an up-and-coming coach because we're not exactly going to steal Stella Sampras from UCLA (Denton was our 5th or 6th choice - Tx Tech coach turned us down). Denton has turned out nice so far, and there's nothing to make me think that hiring someone like that wouldn't work out well for women's as well, but I don't think Byrne wants to spend the time or resources worrying about it when Kleinecke is doing a better job than 1/2 of the coaches on campus (what other team has made the NCAAs 14 years in a row?). The fact that Corbelli is still here should tell you how much Byrne cares about non-revenue sports right now.

If you want Kleinecke gone, you better pray for football success that will give Byrne time to start looking a little lower on the totem pole.

My main point, again, is that even though I don't disagree with you, I wish you would just post something new. What exactly can Kleinecke do better? Who should he be recruiting? What aspects of the game should he be developing more? Who do you think Byrne should hire? If you're going to criticize, show that you know something about the game and are not just some 16 year-old that got dumped by Kleinecke's daughter and now has a weird vendetta.

ANYTHING other than your 109098th post about how Kleinecke is a high school coach.

On a different note, when will we find out if we're hosting the rounds of 64 and 32 for the men? I would assume the women will have to travel. If the guys can start taking the doubles point, I think they have a shot at getting to the quarters if they can get some favorable matchups.

Harry I get your questions I am just too lazy to respond....I will say this Coach k cannot develop players...he played at WTAMU univ and had no pro experience...Which means he cannot attract the best players...With the size of our school and facilites and being in Texas we should be top 15 min every year....none of his teams make it past the secound round and none of his players ever do far individually...he is a team manager...hth

You're right jesse, if you never played professional tennis, you can't develop talent. That Nick Bollettieri guy probably can't develop talent either, since he never played pro tennis.

Your ignorance is beyond words.

Go figure the head tennis coach for the aggies played pro tennis...hahahahah. For every one Nick B that comes once in a lifetime there are plenty of coaches who make it big who had an extensive college career or pro career...thanks come again

Here are the facts...

If you get to the NCAA tournament annually, graduate your players and don't lose to many times to your biggest rival your golden.

I need to mention also, stay away from breaking the rules.

Non- revenue sports at the D-1 level are great for the fan base. You can be close to the action and a part of the program. You can also know the players.

College tennis is a lot of fun. Especially, when you advance in the tournament. The farther you get the risk vs reward quotient goes up on a very personal level.

The goal is to be the team where all the players rush onto the court after the last point and pile on.

Never enjoyed that moment yet but have been really close. Someday it is going to happen.
Harry Dunne

I do think that the fact that he was not a great player and never an assistant for a great coach hurts him. He has not done a good job of developing talent and lately he hasn't done a good job of recruiting - bad combination.

I do think that the Nick B. types are not very common but I also know that some great players make terrible coaches. Jensen is doing an awful job at Syracuse, for instance...but then Denton was a great player and is doing great...and Matt Knoll was NOT a great player and is doing even better. Anyway I think its a case-by-case thing.

I don't think Kleinecke's lack of success has to do with his lack of pedigree - I think it has to do with his lack of effort. One guy on this board a while back said that he tried to send BK a Dutch girl that BK didn't even take a look at and the girl ended up being a top-50 college player (of which we have had less than a handful his whole time here). I also have a family friend whose daughter ended up playing #1 for a top-25 team who really wanted to come to A&M and wrote Kleinecke but he didn't even respond to her and ended up signing Nicki Mechem (among others). Now Mechem was a great representative of Aggie spirit and also an in-state player (the girl I'm talking about was international) but the fact that he didn't even look at her told me all I need to know about his effort level and evaluation of talent.

To me he's like the R.C. or Mark Johnson of college tennis. He does fine, stays competitive, and saw his heyday long ago...and I think he ought to do better. As we saw with R.C. though, the grass isn't always greener.

Who knows? Like I said, squeeze for a change in football.
